Titillating Target of the Day

Bonjour mes petits Oeufs au Plat and welcome to what could quite possibly become a totally unwanted new feature: Titillating Target of the Day.

The very enticingly named Blaise Bourgeouis has picked up a story from France Football saying that we have been scouting a certain Morgan Sanson for around 8 months.  Disappointingly, Blaise is a rather boring looking bloke, not a French blonde bombshell.

Sanson is a 23 year old Central Midfielder who currently plays for this year’s Europa League finalists Olympic Marseille and scored 12 goals and made 3 assists in all competitions last season. He did manage 53 appearances which suggests he could be robust. There have been no guesses at a valuation that I’ve seen, as yet.

Inevitably, there will be cries of “Who?” and a rush to Google and YouTube, so I’ve saved you the trouble by finding you this:

NB

Disclamer: I watched the 2017/18 version and it was a bit less interesting, so in the interests of totally misleading you I’ve posted his ‘exciting’ 2016/17 edit instead.

So, the challenge from here on is to find a new link to a previously unheard of player, in terms of Spurs being ‘interested’ and post ’em up.  Eventually, we will create a sweepstake of runners and riders and someone will walk away with the glory when we actually sign one of them.  Soooo much better than pretending we’ve got inside ITK at Spurs Lodge.

Firstly, who would he play ahead of? He can strike a ball quite cleanly, & can cross from what I saw. Someone to keep Delli on his toes you think??

    • Flat Oeuf 05/06/2018 at 8:06 am

He looks like he could play further back in central midfield. He wears the No. 8 for OM, although he certainly likes to roam about a fair bit. One thing I liked was that he seems to make well-timed runs to the edge of the box and he’s not scared to shoot (on target!) from there as well. I hate to make the comparison but Lampard came to mind.

      • McG ⚽⚽ 05/06/2018 at 8:11 am

I just took at his stats for last year. 23 years old, 9 goals in 2173 minutes of Ligue 1 footie (not bad at all), but in the ropey, 0 goals in 1067 minutes of footie?? I kinda liked what I saw too, but he’d need to work damn hard to get in the side. You’d have to call this one another punt!

        • Flat Oeuf 05/06/2018 at 8:24 am

For sure, a punt. And would have to make quite a big step up for big games in the PL and CL. He is the kind of player we need though to complement Dier/Wanyama against the bus parkers.

  • McG ⚽⚽ 05/06/2018 at 8:21 am

There are a few funny rumours knocking around this morning:
Goons in for Fellaini, Mane apparently agreed Real deal with Zidane, we’re in for Shaqiri (according to the Standard), Ranaldone to United, & Gazza hasn’t quite taken in the transfer market’s current player valuations!!

    • Flat Oeuf 05/06/2018 at 8:25 am

Yes, Gazza’s comments were a little off.

  • UnkleTaff 05/06/2018 at 9:50 am

Yaya Toure has made some very unsavoury comments regarding Guardiola:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44364542

“He was cruel to me. I came to wonder if it was not because of my colour.

I am not the first to talk about these differences in treatment. In Barca, some have also asked the question.

When we realise he often has problems with Africans wherever he goes, I ask myself questions.

I want to be the one who breaks the myth of Guardiola.”

That last comment makes me suspect that this is less about Guardiola and more about Toure.

  • foeorfreund 05/06/2018 at 11:00 am

    Newsflash!
Rich, successful businessmen who own football clubs are no longer permitted to spend their money on luxury items like superyachts unless they show equal personal investment in buying players for their football teams.
Did the Glaziers not get the memo? No, they were probably too busy spending the 18.3mil dividend received last financial year, or the remainder of the 15mil dividend received the previous year. Let’s remind ourselves that Manure are around half a bil in debt, a debt incurred by the owners to buy the club, and pay around 47mil in interest payments on that debt every year. That 18.3mil dividend came off the back of a 3.8mil loss for that financial year. How do you get an 18.3mil dividend from a 3.8mil loss?
If you can’t understand how a rich businessman won’t invest his own money in playing staff for his football club, how could you possibly comprehend owners that put their club into half a bil debt just to buy it, then take huge dividends every year?
Oh, but that’s ok. They have shiny trophies. And they pay “the going rate” to their players, whatever the hell that is. Pwopa owners.

  • DAVID 05/06/2018 at 11:30 am

I see there is some speculation in the press that Toby may yet stay.

As I posted on here last month, I was told his relationship with Poch was fractured and their body language was awful. Not beyond the realms of possibility that the 2 might kiss and make up, I remember Sugar and Jurgen’s initial fall out, only for the German to re-sign for us a couple of seasons later, but Jurgen would have had little daily contact with Sugar and Poch would be working with Toby on a daily basis.

    • UnkleTaff 05/06/2018 at 11:34 am

What’s reason for the breakdown in their relationship, do you know?

      • Caspurs 05/06/2018 at 11:40 am

Well the story goes as follows..
A verbal agreement between Poch and Tobes re his new deal (£120k’ish wage demands ), to then demand a supposed increase to £180k a week when negotiating with Levy.

        • UnkleTaff 05/06/2018 at 11:49 am

IF this is true (big IF), then as good a player as he is we need to be shot of him, don’t we?

He must know he doesn’t stand a cat in hell’s chance of getting £180k a week, so why would he be demanding such a salary unless he doesn’t really want to stay?

I know it’s all media speculation, but the body of evidence against him appears to be quite substantial. I’d happily ship him off to Utd if it meant we could get Martial (and possibly Shaw as well) as part of the deal.

I’d like us to get Rashford as well, but I honestly can’t see him leaving Utd. If he’s got any sense he’ll realise Mourinho won’t be there much longer anyway.

          • Flat Oeuf 05/06/2018 at 1:13 pm

If Poch can forgive him, I’m all for him staying to be fair. If what he/his agent did is true then he deserves a second chance considering how he’s handled himself since. I’d like to get back to a Back 3 with him, Davinson and Jan. Get Rose back up to speed, KWP on the other side. Spend money on a top Central Midfield Maestro General and a quality AM.

            • UnkleTaff 05/06/2018 at 1:24 pm

Pochettino’s forgiveness won’t count for much if Alderweireld really is holding out for £180k a week as he quite simply ain’t going to get it.

And I remain to be convinced he’s as good as everyone (else) seems to think he is anyway.

But whatever the outcome, whether he stays or goes, I’m sure we’re all agreed this needs to be sorted out ASAP as the club’s attentions need to be focused elsewhere (particularly with this being a World Cup year and the transfer window shutting earlier than usual). We don’t need a lengthy will he stay / will he go saga overshadowing everything else.

Why would he; he has no control over the purse strings?

    • Flat Oeuf 05/06/2018 at 1:59 pm

So he can boast about how much him and Dan are earning?

    • McG ⚽⚽ 05/06/2018 at 1:59 pm

He must do, as player wages tie in with transfer budgets.

      I’m being picked on today!!

      • JonSpur 05/06/2018 at 2:05 pm

I don’t see that the two notions are inextricably linked.

        • McG ⚽⚽ 05/06/2018 at 2:10 pm

          Well, they are.

          • JonSpur 05/06/2018 at 2:25 pm

Tsk. The notions that Poch talks to the players about money and Poch is involved in player acquisition are not inextricably linked, if at all.

Consider the following scenarios and indicate which one is most likely:

            1. Poch: Toby is in my plans.
Levy: I’ll sort it out. Toby..?
            Toby: I want £120k pw

            Or

            2. Poch: Toby, you’re in my plans.
            Toby: I want £120k pw.
            Poch: No worries.

            Clue: It’s not no.2.

            • McG ⚽⚽ 05/06/2018 at 2:29 pm

You can spend 10 mil on players, wages must not exceed 2 mil per year for said players.

              • McG ⚽⚽ 05/06/2018 at 2:31 pm

Plus Poch is always sitting with players when they sign their new contracts.

                • Anonymous 05/06/2018 at 2:36 pm

Haha! Poch sat with Ferguson for lunch, doesn’t mean he cooked the food, paid the bill or did the washing up.

                  • McG ⚽⚽ 05/06/2018 at 2:37 pm

No, but he’d see what they ate, who paid for the bill & whether they did any washing up or not.

                    • Anonymous 05/06/2018 at 2:40 pm

Ah, so you do agree with me.

              • Anonymous 05/06/2018 at 2:34 pm

You’re assuming Poch knows the cost of players and what they will ask for in wages. I sincerely doubt that he does.

I think it’s for more likely that Poch identifies to player he wants and the player he will accept and Levy does the rest.

I am very concerned that the arse have commenced transfer dealings before us. Don’t let his age fool you, this Lichtsteiner chap, even at 34, will no doubt be a massive success. In his 36 appearances this season, 9 as sub, he averaged 50mins per game, so he’s still got legs in him. Transfermarkt’s assessment of his strengths and weaknesses makes interesting reading, his strengths being “no significant strengths”, and his weaknesses being tackling and his aerial abilities, which doesn’t matter too much, considering he is a defender.
              No wonder he was free.

  • UnkleTaff 06/06/2018 at 9:48 am

I’m a big admirer of Anthony Martial. When he first arrived at Old Trafford, under van Gaal he looked one hell of player. He’s lost his way a bit under Mourinho but he’s still (relatively) a kid so that comes as no great surprise as Mourinho has a pretty awful track record when it comes to developing youngsters.

I think we would be a much stronger outfit for the acquisition of Martial and if it takes selling Alderweireld to one of our rivals (if you can consider looking over your shoulder to be rivalry) then it’s a price well worth paying in my view. Focus more on what’s good for us and to hell with everyone else. That’s what I reckon, anyway.

Swap Danny Rose for Luke Shaw as well while you’re at it.

    • SpurAndy 🍒 🥧 06/06/2018 at 9:54 am

Sorry Taff can’t agree with that. Our defence last season wasn’t as good as the previous and I think that had a lot to do with Tony’s absence. The defence is where we’re more vulnerable at the moment whereas Martial would be more of a luxury item. Who would he replace, Son, Lamela? Is he really a big upgrade on an inform Son? I’d like to get Martial in but I think overall we’d be worse off if it was at the expense of Toby imo.

      • UnkleTaff 06/06/2018 at 10:03 am

I think the loss of Walker and Rose was far more harmful to our defence (which is still pretty good, by the way) than the loss of Alderweireld who, I think, is still being rated according to his stellar debut season as opposed to the two subsequent ones. It remains to be seen if he’s capable of returning to that performance level. Given his age, recent injury record and likely transfer fee I maintain that selling him now is the best course of action.

        • McG ⚽⚽ 06/06/2018 at 10:08 am

To be fair, you’d have to say a combination of all three. Missed pace on the wings from Rose & Walks, missed the experience of Tobes in crucial games. We ain’t gonna revert to a back three, so it’s a take the money & run from me. Just a shame it looks as though he’ll be joining a rival…

          • UnkleTaff 06/06/2018 at 10:12 am

Bottom line for me is: who would you rather have in your squad, Martial or Alderweireld (assuming you can’t have both)?

Two years ago I would probably have answered Alderweireld. But, with Vertonghen now being the dominant defender in our squad, I’d have to go for Martial.

            • Ronwol1960-61 06/06/2018 at 10:59 am

Taff you cant compare Alderwiereld now to the way he was.He had a major injury and hasn’t been at his best (ditto Rose)His age for us is a problem but we have no idea where he really is physically and how ell he can or cannot come back.
Martial is a shot in the dark. But we are in much more need of a CB than another attacker that’s for sure, and much more in need of a CM than either of them

              • UnkleTaff 06/06/2018 at 11:03 am

Who says I can’t? Even before his injuries mistakes that weren’t there in his debut season had started to creep into his game.

We have Sanchez (and the extremely promising Foyth) already on our books and I really don’t think we’ll miss Alderweireld much if he does go.

                • Ronwol1960-61 06/06/2018 at 11:13 am

Taff, Toby has been tremendous for us up to his injury. When you say he has mistakes creeping up on him what do you mean> He is supposed to be perfect? He was as perfect as anyone else in the league and more than most. You want to deny that fine. But that’s in your head.
Sanchez on the other hand was fantastic with Toby and Verts either side of him.Tremendously confident, but has had many brain farts since.
I still believe in that kid. But to deny that Toby was a stalwart in defence is ludicrous

                  • UnkleTaff 06/06/2018 at 11:37 am

“You want to deny that fine. But that’s in your head.”

Ron, mate, this is sailing perilously close to playing the man and not the ball.

Now come on Taff. Is this site so clinically clean that only you are allowed to throw your weight around and say outrageous things?

                    • UnkleTaff 06/06/2018 at 11:45 am

I’m expression an opinion. I’m allowed to do that. What I don’t expect is a response from someone effectively saying that I’m delusional because I don’t see things the same way they do.

                    • Ronwol1960-61 06/06/2018 at 11:48 am

If you want to say the word delusional go ahead. I didn’t.
But I think putting down Tobys quality for us is a more diabolical, but if you thought I was delusional go ahead. Between the two I think I know where the truth lies. Its perception and I think you’ve go it all wrong

    • Freund or Foe 06/06/2018 at 11:15 am

I’d be very happy with Martial, even if Tobes goes the other way. With him, we need no further AM/CF additions.
I think it’s time to let Tobes go. He’s been ultra professional throughout, but I find the latest comment “Of course I have my own idea, but that is not the case now” a bit sad. If he wants out, let him go.

      • Anonymous 06/06/2018 at 11:23 am

I would imagine he is looking for a big payday or to win something or both. He does deserve that. While his relationship with Poch must be quite strong,Levy really doesn’t endear himself to the players so he has no real connection with the club.So I don’t really blame him

Do you know how long it takes to keep 3,242 workers in tea, 24 hours a day? Confusing stuff, remembering how many sugars everyone has. And the kettles! ENIC could have easily bought a share of Russell Hobbs.

Sorry its my tea break….I know I know it must be hard work. You have to walk past a bunch of 20 year old millionaire footie players who hate your guts to get to the canteen where your mates are….he obviously his Gucci suit inside out when he reaches the sandwich kiosk

They always had better sanchwiches than we had I’m afraid. We were winning doubles and starving refusing to eat the stuf they were offering in the East Stand.I had t go over to the Tottenham Café to get a fry up that contained oil from the lorries behind the gaff

It’s funny how there’s so much more money in football than 12 years ago when goons built their stadium, yet no one envisages us being able to pay ours off quicker? Our stadium is around double the cost of theirs, our revenue over the last nine years alone has increased from 133 mil to 356 mil, a 267% increase.

We are lacking midfield ball players. This is our big hole. From Dier/Wanyama through to Eriksen, there is a whole lot of land with little in the way of creativity.
