The Cougars of WHL

Well that was a great night. There’s little better than watching a very accomplished performance in Europe with fellow Oeufers.

Poch has learnt: He set us up in exactly the way you would want to frustrate a potentially dangerous side, even at 3-0 down. I was reminded of the Juve game where we naïvely tried to smash them off the park when all we needed was to defend a lead and wait for an opportunity to score again after we were 1-0 up. Having said that, we didn’t just defend in numbers. Everyone worked incredibly hard (both Eriksen and Sissoko covered over 11km).

We’re maturing and I’ll be happy whatever the draw. I don’t subscribe to the thinking that Porto or Roma (or Ajax 😮) would be an ‘easier’ draw. If pushed, I’d like to swerve Citeh, if anyone.

What with the news (from Poch himself) of the likelihood that our home tie will be at the NWHL, a creeping ‘What if’ feeling – the scourge of all Spurs fans – has begun to rise.

For now, I’ll just enjoy last night and a huge feeling of pride in the fact that we soundly beat one of this season’s form teams in Europe.

Bladdy luvly it were.

They don’t have the stomach for building from the roots up. Look at Chelsea and Yanited. Word was Van Gaal teams take a couple of seasons to come good but they let him go after a year. Sarri was brought in to dramatically change Chelsea’s style. But they will probably fire him before he’s barely started

I’m not sure the big stars at RM would be up with Poch’s methods, and he hasn’t got the street cred that comes when you win big trophies. He prefers to develop young up and coming talent and I don’t think RM would have the patience to wait

Tellingly, he also said he knew what the questioner was trying to get him to say and he was having none of it.

He’s ours for the foreseeable future but one day he’ll manage Real. Since they’ve sacked 16 managers in 19 years he knows he can wait for that chance and go there when he chooses, not them.

In respect of our opening game, this is subject to both a safety certificate and the outcome of Brighton & Hove Albion’s FA Cup match on Sunday 17 March.

We have held discussions with the Premier League and UEFA. The following has been agreed with the Premier League, Brighton and Crystal Palace to ensure that our first game is a Premier League match prior to a UEFA Champions League quarter-final match:

If Brighton win their FA Cup quarter-final match on Sunday 17th March we shall play Crystal Palace on Wednesday 3rd April and Brighton on 23rd/24th April.

If Brighton lose their FA Cup quarter-final match on Sunday 17th March we shall play Brighton on 6th/7th April (subject to Champions League scheduling) and Crystal Palace on 23rd/24th April.

We should like to thank Brighton and Crystal Palace for their support with the rescheduling arrangements.
