Thank Yahweh for the interlull

Good Morning Gentlemen and Scholars of the game of foeutball.

I didn’t watch the game live and I haven’t been moved to source a re-run, so I’m able to sit here with the beautifully simplistic view of 3 points gained, no matter how we went about it, being as good as it gets in our current state of squad depletion.

A largeish concern for me is Verts being potentially out until late November and us having a fair few chunky games between now and then. It’s not that we can’t cope in any one game but that, cumulatively, tired legs will lead to mistakes at key moments. I’d like to see Foyth getting some more run outs now…hopefully his Argentina call-up will give him some confidence.

Otherwise, in defence Poch is going to have to be clever with his resources. For instance, I remember he’s used Davies on the left of a Back 3 before, and Dier can always drop into the right of a Back 3 too. This would allow the use of KWP as a wing-back too.

Clearly, its a balance between playing a consistent team and formation to get results, whilst tinkering and rotating to fend off further fatigue and injuries.

How difficult can it be?

It will be lemon difficult, one man’s tinkerman is another man’s steady Eddy. I saw most of the match and I’m amazed it looked quite decent on MOTD. I can live on gruel for a while but need pwopper sustanance sooner rather than later. Frankly finding it quite amazing we’re only two points off the lead with the current Ian Dury crisis, must have a decent squad after all.

  • HD 🇺🇸 08/10/2018 at 12:40 pm

Poch is going to need to be resourceful and have the mind of an engineer to get us thru the upcoming run of fixtures. We are a bit thin, we are a bit hurt but this interlull could be a blessing in disguise. Here’s hoping.

  • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 08/10/2018 at 12:55 pm

I dont care who is out there, but it would be great whoever is can actually do the things you expect from them. You know nothing earth shattering.(Thats only a bonus) Things like Passing and Shooting,Marking and Tackling. Im not asking for a novel just some Riting and Rifmetic thats all.
The 12 days should be good for us.We can heal a bit more, reflect a bit more about our footie and get refocused to understand what this game is all about.
We so look great when we come out the tunnel, like young bright babies flowing out from the woomb in their new trackwear and looking sprightly and even when the anthems play standing their like gladiators waiting for their moment of glory.
Im not sure what happens after that. They seem to seep into some kind of dissonance and at times somehow end up with the points.
I havent seen a lot of good football from us this season. Look it could be me but when I look at the defenders hesitatantly pass it around like a potato they are not interested in,i wonder what their focus is.
I would like us to get back to enjoying our game.I dont see that in them this season. They seem to be stressed to do something instead of happy with what they are doing.

Here are 12 days to actually take the time to see who we are and where we want to be.

    • HD 🇺🇸 08/10/2018 at 1:37 pm

I agree with your view that we (our team) don’t seem to be enjoying our football. Perhaps this break can aid Poch in resurrecting this feeling in our squad.

        Wots De Fird?

  • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 08/10/2018 at 1:02 pm

There were bright spots yesterday and I agree with others that Winks was great yesterday. For me he was our best player.
I also like the fact that Rose is coming on strong. Son was terrible,Moura was really good, although tried too much. Harry was back to trying. Dier was better than he has been. Trippier was ok.
We missed Eriksen and Dele for sure.

  • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 08/10/2018 at 1:10 pm

One more before Im off. I know that 3 pts is great. But really I would like us to play the kind of footie that stamps our name on a game. Not just the 3 points.
I think whats more important for me is that we should be confident to beat anyone. But with these kinds of games being dished up lately it doesnt give me that.
Look I was brought up at a time where we smashed these types of teams and our confidence was super high. It didnt happen every single game but enough to feel we can feel confident.
Do you feel confident enough today? Its not just the players who are fit or not fit. Its more about our mental attitude and the flow of our game (for me anyway)

    • McG ⚽⚽ 08/10/2018 at 2:23 pm

I think everyone wants to see us play better Ron, but given the circumstances we can’t complain too much. Seems the WC has been a bit of a killer… Eriksen Dembele & Aurier back for hammers will make a massive difference. Son needs dropping or resting, seems he’s already playing twice before spammers unfortunately.

      • Ronwol196061 08/10/2018 at 4:17 pm

Son needs the think as he runs.
        Moura at times too

  • GDawg 08/10/2018 at 1:29 pm

Son has been in a funk all season, I expect him to break out hopefully soon as he has too much class to be pants for too long. I thought Sissy came on and did his best, he certainly wasn’t the worst out there. Rather than focus on individuals I think collectively we lacked assertiveness. You can blame that on all of the injuries, but on paper the team we rolled out there were heaps better than Cardiff. Too many times Winks bombed forward with no one in support, Moura too, time to look more like a team

    • Ronwol196061 08/10/2018 at 4:18 pm

      Yep Gdawg

  • SeattleSpursGuy 08/10/2018 at 1:57 pm

Unpopular Opinion: Sissy didn’t do badly on Saturday. Put himself about, and played some good balls to the attackers. In fact, he put Moura and Son through with very presentable chances, which those two muffed. On another day, we’re talking Sissy with two assists

    • Fatty B 08/10/2018 at 2:15 pm

      Unpopular maybe, but accurate nonetheless

    • McG ⚽⚽ 08/10/2018 at 2:26 pm

    • Ronwol196061 08/10/2018 at 4:19 pm

      I don’t disagree
I usually rate players on what I expect from them not evenly and Sissoko was above average

  • merrance 08/10/2018 at 2:03 pm

nice to see Winks do a Scotty crop circle during the game, he came out with the ball at his feet and moved forward.Scotty was so dizzy he never knew where he was when he came out of the spin.

  • Fatty B 08/10/2018 at 2:36 pm

We already know this group of players under this coach can play good football and can, on their day, beat anyone. What we haven’t been able to be confident about in the past is whether we have the ability to close out a game when we’re ahead, beat sides we ought to beat (a few years ago Saturday’s game would have ended in a 1-2 loss) and get points we don’t necessarily deserve. These are different, perhaps even, ‘ugly’ abilities but they are abilities we need to have and be confident in employing, in my everso ‘umble opinion.

It’s something we’ve needed to learn, been thrust upon us this season with injuries & so far we’ve managed. Just looking forward to seeing us click in the not too distant…

            • Ronwol196061 08/10/2018 at 4:28 pm

Yes winning ugly is a virtue but must be joined with some winning beautiful too

I’m with you 💯 on this, FB. I can’t subscribe to the ‘play beautiful football at all costs’ thinking. Sounds like a recipe for us to have not enough wins to get silverware.

          I agree Flats

I’m with you as well Fats but with the proviso that in any season the majority of games are watchable. The Cardiff game wasnt that bad if viewed as an anomaly. If it became standard fare then I would not be appy, even if it won us silverware. With one exception, bring the first year. I’d forgive most things for one year if it actually won us a cup.

      • McG ⚽⚽ 08/10/2018 at 3:54 pm

I am far more concerned about Eriksen being out and the Denmark manager seemed to think it could be a long term injury in hiss presser today. We miss him the most with Toby a fraction behind him.

      *his

    • Superspoz 🏆 08/10/2018 at 7:56 pm

Hence Harry is playing a deeper role in his absence, his range of passing hasn’t gone unnoticed by Poch but he doesn’t belong there.

      • Chauvelin 08/10/2018 at 8:05 pm

It was noticeable that Kane went deep to collect the ball and initiate moves rather than be on the recieving end. Other than him and Winks no one else was. Sissoko can’t and Dier struggles to be creative. Son is like a dog chasing a stick, all instinct no thought, and Moura is trying to find space to receive.

At times like this one thinks of Grealish…

        • Sexy Beast 08/10/2018 at 8:14 pm

Sonny looks knackered, i’d let Lamela play the 10 and keep the best 9 in the world doing what he does best, put the ball in the net.

          • Superspoz 🏆 08/10/2018 at 8:29 pm

I think Lamela is being carefully managed, he can absolutely play the no. 10 role and once fully fit he’ll be a certain starter for every game.

            • Ronwol196061 08/10/2018 at 10:06 pm

Lamela is much better than Son

              • Chauvelin 08/10/2018 at 10:33 pm

Lamela has shown he links up well with Eriksen. Great goal, great assist.

        • Fatty B 08/10/2018 at 9:05 pm

Pity Grealish is a Villa man and wanted to stay there.

          • Ronwol196061 08/10/2018 at 10:10 pm

            Grealish could still leave

        • Ronwol196061 08/10/2018 at 10:09 pm

Winks may be able to do the job but he has to take more chances at creating
Creating is not something for the weak willed (Im not saying Winks is) it takes taking a stand with passes that are not always safe. He may be able to do that. We see a glimpse of that with him but we need more
