Palate Cleanser from McG

I’ve taken the liberty of posting McG’s comment as a starter for ten. I hope that’s alright.

So who thinks Dembele shouldn’t start vs dips? I think playing Sanchez & not Dier was the major issue on Sunday. He’s a big game player & does raise his game. I’d like to see some more of winks, but not until he’s fully up to speed, & against some lesser sides first. Dembele to start against dips for me, should be nicely rested too.

Wasn’t it this fixture last year when poch played aurier left back? Anyone think he might try something unusual again this time around?

  • Ronwol196061 04/09/2018 at 9:22 pm

    Ronwol196061 04/09/2018 at 9:09 pm
What Poch tried to do is get all the players playing more fluid. It worked but Watford’s defence was very tight and it was difficult to get through both through passes or with power and running.
    Nobody did anything special.
Dembele was ahead of the back 5 and it was difficult for him to deal with the midfield by himself he was outnumbered and he is slower now.
Liverpool poses a different problem but Poch often comes up with the right formation against them.
I would put Winks in with Dier myself. But we play 3 CBs there will be two few to put the ball in the net. And if we go with two CB’s IM not sure we can hold Sallah,Mane and Firmino

    Hartley 04/09/2018 at 9:12 pm
    I fully agree

    Ronwol196061 04/09/2018 at 9:20 pm
    NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Northern Spur 04/09/2018 at 9:23 pm

I’m useless with tactical formations, but would be happy with the teams who played them at Wembley or Anfield last season. Not sure how I’d fit Moura into the line-up, which is a shame!

    • Superspoz 🏆 04/09/2018 at 9:34 pm

Formations are easy. We play 4231 because because we have the perfect target man, dms and the perfect trio behind our striker. We dont play a 433 because we dont have wide players (full backs dont count as much in a 433). The343 doesn’t need 2 dms but it absolutely needs one forward thinking cm and 2 decent wing backs. If a dm used here instead of a tradition no.8 then the no.10 has to stay close him ie Eriksen with dembele vs Watford.
      Or summink like that.

      • Superspoz 🏆 04/09/2018 at 9:36 pm

Having said that, vs bourmouth after Kane limped off, poch changed it to a 433 with lamela son and Alli as the front 3 and it worked a treat.

        • Caspurs 04/09/2018 at 9:37 pm

We beat Swansea in the cup with that team and we looked really good.

      • Northern Spur 04/09/2018 at 9:40 pm

We looked solid with the back 3 the season before last. The speedy Sanchez in between the “quarterbacks” that is Jan and Toby was genius by poch . And winks excelled in the middle vs Madrid last season. Can’t wait for his return.

    • McG ⚽⚽ 04/09/2018 at 9:32 pm

One of the few games I missed last year was the Real Madrid game that Winks is supposed to have played so well and the rest of the games I saw him in he showed only glimpses of being a good player and seemed inconsistent to me even though I desperately wanted him to look good and was looking for positives.
I think Dembele is a great option off the bench.
I think he has some good moments as a starter but often doesn’t really move us forward. He sucks lots of opposition players to himself when he is on the ball which creates space for other players but doesn’t seem to me that the extra space gets exploited effectively. Whether that’s due to him or his teammates I am not sure but often the result is disappointing.
To me he is an enigma. Brilliant on the ball at times but terrible when chasing back and giving away silly free kicks.
Long term I hope Dier and Winks form a formidable partnership. Short term I don’t know if Winks is ready.
Against Liverpool I expect we may see the return of Wanyama.

  • McG ⚽⚽ 04/09/2018 at 9:34 pm

Back four & keep room in the side for Moura please!

  • Ronwol196061 04/09/2018 at 9:38 pm

I think Winks has to show more creatively and also a determination to make things happen. If he can do that, the CM position is open. Eriksen and Dele did not make the area their own in this last game. We need more from the position

    • McG ⚽⚽ 04/09/2018 at 9:42 pm

We should have Son, Lamela & Wanyama back for dips. Prob the first time we’ve had a full squad of first teamers to pick from in around 4 years.

      • Shelfy 04/09/2018 at 9:46 pm

I told her indoors I thought our bench lacked creativity before the Watford game. We missed having either Son or Lamela. It is often good to have a creative player come on after an hour or so when the opposition is tired but we had all our available playmakers on from the start. Hindsight’s great isn’t it?

  • Northern Spur 04/09/2018 at 9:44 pm

Foyth misses out on the CL group stage A+B lists. I thought there was only 1 list.

    • Shelfy 04/09/2018 at 9:48 pm

I thought the 25 man squad could be supplemented by under 21s and he is 20. He was left out for the knockout stages last season as well.

      • McG ⚽⚽ 04/09/2018 at 10:27 pm

Injured, so prob an easy decision…

  • Matt 04/09/2018 at 10:05 pm

I’d go sh&t or bust against Liverpool. I’d play 4231. Dier and Eriksen in CM. Son, Alli and Moura as the 3. This is why I am not a football manager.

  • Frontwheel 2 04/09/2018 at 10:23 pm

Having said nothing good about Dembele for a while I actually think think a game against the dippers could work out well,if he played a good game held onto the ball and frustrated them, stopped their flow,it could work out quite well. Just don’t lose the ball in our half as we’d be in shit Street.

  • Chauvelin 04/09/2018 at 10:37 pm

Last season again Liverpool we won 4-1.

We played Aurier… at left wing back!! opposite Trippier.
Our midfield was… Eriksen, Winks, and Dele.
    Kane and Son upfront.
Toby, Sanchez and Verts in the back line.

No Dembele, no Dier (sub 81), no Wanyama and no Sissoko (sub 69).

I would go without Dembele in the next one.We need players who can keep up with Liverpool
I would also play Moura not as deep as he has been so he can do something with the ball

  • Sniper 05/09/2018 at 7:30 am

Let’s ease off Dembele. He had a bad game it would appear (I’ve still not seen the game) but everyone was loving the guy in gang bang fashion before then!
I would point to the three at the back ploy, which creates an imbalance in the team and should only ever happen at home. I think we got arrogant away to a supposed lesser side and came unstuck.
Bindippers will be 4-3-3 with Gegenpress (rob the opposition immediately they get the ball in advanced areas) so Pochshould set up for that. Dembele is good with ball retention, usually, and ability to beat a man is key to freeing up numbers. Moura is amust include for that reason alone.

Plenty of fluids required to avoid dehydration.

    Chauvelin

Very early photo (1885) of the The Hotspur squad.

16 year old Bobby Buckle is second from the left, bottom left. He was the lad who had the idea to form the team; he was the first captain, and scored the first ever official goal.

If Bobby were alive today I wonder what he’d think of it all? Would he be proud the way the games gone, the wages, the commercialism? What would make make of the fans passion and the bonds it creates, the hatred of other teams, the violence at times? The good it does for charities and the community?

      Ruddy Nora, Ms Rayner.

Andy these are only the negative aspects. The football itself has changed, fans expect the pace of the game to match the pace of the world today. Look at films etc. We have as much excitement today as they did.
We cant even look at the reality of Dembele’s contribution to Spurs beyond these last games, how are we to look at the past with any objectivity? Photos always look good tinted with sepia, but the reality is the reality and todays game has got some great aspects and some bad as did that history. My Dad used to talk about the war as if they were really good times.

      • Fat Bertha 05/09/2018 at 3:23 pm

Ah Jeez, are we still talking about Mousa Tenbellies? By we I mean you.

No finished that. Its about the reality though. A difficult one when biases take over peoples souls

With saying this 60-61 WAS different. It was a purely magical season for us,wa one off in a way. Yes we did get Greaves later and we won the European Cup WInners Cup later but nothing was as idealic as that season. Those one offs are like a girl we met as a teenager once on holiday…

… who gave us chlamydia before disappearing off the face of the earth leaving us with a painful, stinky infection which we passed on to the 20 2 other sexual partners we had when we were 35.

Two? Two partners? What are you, some kind of sex-crazed lothario?

chlamydia …..are you talking about Dembele. After reading some of the posts yesterday you would think that was about Mousa. I mean not quite the same level of hate for Sissoko but close.
