Lil’ Mal heading our way?

There’s a reason Barca paid £36m for Malcom. Just because he hasn’t made it in half a season, doesn’t mean he’s become a crap player. What’s not to like? He can dribble, pass and he’s got a great long-range shot on him, plus he likes to get stuck in. On top of all of that he looks like he’s got a good attitude: a bit ‘umble an all that.

Word is that he might be available on a loan, with a view to a permanent in the summer. Now I hear you shouting that we really need a top CM, all the more so now that Moussa has moved on but….but….Poch can easily slide Dele or CE a bit further back to accommodate a firecracker like this one. The only possible downside is he looks a bit Moura-ish.

Having said that, with Kaneinho out we could revert to using Nando a bit more, which would require more balls in the box. Lil’ Mal can play as AM or as a winger, so fits the bill.

I think we’ll be bringing in at least one reinforcement this January. I know you all have your favourites, but who do you actually think it WILL be?

It’s unlike me to normally share my views I know, but Frenkie would be my choice…

      That was not the question!

Ah sorry, I hear no one is available. It’d be a cracking signing if we can pull it off..

          Too similar to nobody.

  • Hartley 17/01/2019 at 5:42 pm

Not signing anybody hasn’t done us much harm to be fair so if we do sign somebody they’d better be better than nobody.

    • Caspurs 17/01/2019 at 5:44 pm

I’m glad we didn’t sign anybody, bullet dodged imo.

It must have been somebody, it obviously wasn’t nobody and if it was anybody I’d be very surprised.

Yes, well, you’re probably right but you could be wrong.

  • TCY 17/01/2019 at 5:52 pm

Malcom sounds OK to me. Nando or Vinny up front is a guarantee of no production in the league. If 7 Son were not cavorting around Asia I’d feel better but we need some reinforcements.

  • SeattleSpursGuy 17/01/2019 at 6:00 pm

Mal played a grand total of 363 minutes for Barca this season. The question I would ask is why? Not good enough? Bad attitude? Poor trainer? Or maybe him and Barca are just a poor fit?

  • Chauvelin 17/01/2019 at 6:20 pm

I haven’t got the foggiest clue who might be signed. Sale or return for this Malcolm chap sounds sensible. A player who can shoot from distance wouldn’t go amiss (Eriksen can do it) as recently we’ve been guilty of trying to walk the damn ball into the goal. Variety is important, United had 8 players in and around the box, someone who can leather it from outside the area could win games.

The worst thing about travelling home on the tube is all the stinking people. Mostly men. Stinking of nasty stale cigarettes and sweat and bo and general unwashedness.

And in the mornings having to sit next stinkers who haven’t even washed their vrubby faces is repugnant.

    • mystic arnold 17/01/2019 at 7:04 pm

      • AntSpurs 17/01/2019 at 7:35 pm

Summer it is . Hmmm who’s for starters? Malcom does look a decent prospect although a loan move doesn’t work me thinks.

  • SeattleSpursGuy 17/01/2019 at 7:18 pm

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly turned to former Fiorentina and Italy star Giuseppe Rossi to ease their striking woes. According to Tuttosport, Tottenham could offer Rossi a short-term, pay-as-you-play contract.

    Saha-esque

    • Chauvelin 17/01/2019 at 7:29 pm

I saw that and thought it unlikely. Malcom more likely as we were linked heavily with the young man in 2017.

  • Matt 17/01/2019 at 7:30 pm

He’s a left foot inverted winger isn’t he? May be a Lamela replacement. I’m sure there’s more pressing needs, but I’d quite like to see it. We need an exciting luxury!

  • UnkleTaff 17/01/2019 at 7:32 pm

Does anyone believe this guff about Poch having a ‘war chest’ of 50 million this window?

    • Chauvelin 17/01/2019 at 7:44 pm

I think Levy will have asked Poch how seriously the squad is weakened and would back him in the market if Pochettino was very concerned.

  • UnkleTaff 17/01/2019 at 7:42 pm

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we used the Fulham game to have a look at Oliver Skipp (and possibly even Troy Parrott) before deciding whether or not to bring someone in.

The sale of Dembele just means that Foyth can now be included as part of the CL squad, so I suspect we’d still need to shift either N’Koudou or Janssen (or both) before anyone else came in.

  • UnkleTaff 17/01/2019 at 7:45 pm

A number of media outlets tell us that Spurs need a different striker because Llorente hasn’t scored in the PL this season.

    He’s had 36 minutes. That’s all.

In fact in all games he’s scored 4 in 241 minutes, that’s a goal every hour. He must be played at least in the next two games.

Down to Pochettino, although I think Levy would relish the media pundits scratching their collective heads and pontificating about how Spurs are defying their wise counsel to keep buying to achieve success: and how not reinforcing our weakened squad will backfire.

      • Chauvelin 18/01/2019 at 12:10 pm

Janssen isn’t the blockage as he isn’t registered in either first team squad. Nkoudou and Vorm are the ones who should go.

        • UnkleTaff 18/01/2019 at 12:19 pm

No, but as I say he’s still on the wage bill. Levy can’t be happy about retaining the services of a player he can’t use (to say nothing of freeing up those wages for use elsewhere).

As for Vorm, we still need a third ‘keeper which means he won’t be leaving us until the summer at the earliest.

Nobody seems to wants N’Koudou (quite why escapes me) so my guess is we’ll trying to offload him as a loan deal to some poor desperate soul as the end of the window approaches.

He looks ok,not earth shattering quality, but can be effective in the role. Can head and liked the way he beat the high line a few times

He does look more of a striker than Malcom who seems to be an AM

      • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 18/01/2019 at 12:17 pm

This about Malcom from a site called Taste of Football

Common with Brazilians, Malcom is a skilful dribbler, capable of playing in central attacking midfield alongside his preferred position on the right-wing. He is a competent shooter from distance yet also a quality crosser of the ball. Alongside his blistering pace and technical ability, Malcom is hard to push off the ball, demonstrating fantastic hold up play for a 5ft 7in winger. Not to mention, he is a set piece specialist shown by his strikes against Nancy and St Etienne during his time at Bordeaux

      • Chauvelin 18/01/2019 at 12:20 pm

Sanabria clip showed him scoring with right and left foot shots and he appears to be adept with either. However that was a rather short video if it showed all his goals last season. Not many.

        • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 18/01/2019 at 12:28 pm

I watch as well how a player finds space. You take Janssen. He had a hard time finding space when he was with us. Always seems to be marked out but it takes a real sense to see the space develop and get in there and then there is the timing to beat the back line.
Its difficult to defend a player who can judge that. Because to mark a player you really need to be goalside of him. To play him offside you have to be at least beside him.Thats where the timing works for a good attacker and not everyone is capable

          • Ronwol196061 18/01/2019 at 12:37 pm

My point was he seems like he can do that

            • Chauvelin 18/01/2019 at 12:50 pm

This season he’s scored two goals in 14 games. One goal every four hours. I reckon Janssen score do better than that La Liga.

              • Chauvelin 18/01/2019 at 12:51 pm

Corrxction: Sanabria one goal every six hours, four matches. That’s rubbish.

                • Chauvelin 18/01/2019 at 12:57 pm

I’ve had a closer look. Last season he was banging goals in for fun, then his season ended with a long knee injury. Went first four months of this season playing without scoring. Only just scored two goals since Christmas. I reckon he might be crocked.

  • Sexy Beast 18/01/2019 at 12:06 pm

    UnkleTaff
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we used the Fulham game to have a look at Oliver Skipp (and possibly even Troy Parrott) before deciding whether or not to bring someone in.
The sale of Dembele just means that Foyth can now be included as part of the CL squad, so I suspect we’d still need to shift either N’Koudou or Janssen (or both) before anyone else came in.

I doubt if Janssen is in the prem squad let alone the UCL.

    • UnkleTaff 18/01/2019 at 12:08 pm

I think you’re right. He’s still on the wage bill, though.

    • Chauvelin 18/01/2019 at 12:12 pm

We have to submit squads at the end of January after the window?

  • UnkleTaff 18/01/2019 at 12:21 pm

As I understand it we looked at both Moura and Malcom last year before deciding upon Moura. They look to be quite similar players so I can’t for the life of me think why we’d seriously be in for Malcom now.

    • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 18/01/2019 at 12:30 pm

With the advent of wingbacks, wingers are almost midfielders now. Moura is talented with the ball and quick but I think Malcom looks more of an midfielder than Moura does as Malcom seems to have more strength and also a very good long shot

  • Bruxie 18/01/2019 at 12:38 pm

Don’t know what all the fuss is about our quotas for foreign players.
We leave whoever out of any squad that we register.

The prominent grass in desert climates, on golf courses, is Bermuda. In thrives in the heat but goes brown when dormant in the winter. Often courses are seeded with areas to outline rough for aesthetic purposes. Makes for a vividly differently look.

I heard he was offered a contract on par with Dele, it should have been closer to Harry’s if that’s true. In my head, it makes sense to pay him whatever he’s asked for, so long as that doesn’t exceed HK’s salary. Sell him in a year’s time & he’s gonna be worth at least 40mil more than when his contract reaches it’s final 12 months. What’s there to lose??

I have to say, for all the good he’s done, Levy really has sucked out all of the fun from our transfer windows, I fookin hate them right now, especially seeing everyone else around us making signings. We can’t get away with losing players like Dembele & Tobes without strengthening, gonna bite us in the arse sooner or later.

    • Chauvelin 18/01/2019 at 11:12 pm

I’m willing to give Levy the benefit of the doubt until the stadium is up and running. We’ve got good youngsters but I’d like to bring in a couple of homegrown players like that Hull winger and the Norwich right back (the jury is out on Aurier and Trippier) as ones to reinforce the squad. Maybe even Caspur’s Tierney. They wouldn’t break the bank.

But we can’t compete with Citeh or Cheatski as they operate with flagrant disregard for any rules. But aside from them I can’t see much transfer activity yet from United, Arsenal or Liverpool.

Newsnight continues to be even handed over Trump. Some new allegations are being discussed by Newsnight with Craig Unger, a man who is hardly unbiased as he has previously claimed Trump is “a Russian asset”. How is that sound journalism?
I neither know the facts or have any love of Trump, but even I can smell the rank unfairness of these BBC reports, as with no spokesman for Donald, it’s purely negative comments and poisoning of his reputation.

      Welcome to our world.

      • Chauvelin 18/01/2019 at 11:17 pm

He might be a saint or a sinner, but he’s entitled to a just hearing. The BBC should be ashamed of that ‘discussion’ piece.

        • HD 🇺🇸 18/01/2019 at 11:25 pm

Exactly. No judgement of the man but they (the media) should not pre judge nor preach a supposed outcome. It happens over here 1000 times a day. They have forgotten what facts are.

          • Caspurs 18/01/2019 at 11:32 pm

From what I read about Trump in the US and our political shenanigans over here, the press appear to be more divided than ever, they are either pro or anti, with very little meaningful and balanced reporting on the either subject.

            • HD 🇺🇸 18/01/2019 at 11:36 pm

Less in the way of balanced reporting. As it relates to him far more negative than positive. Reporting from this side on your issues seems quite straight forward.

I is currently in New York. The news seems to be how the news are reporting the news. It’s news to me. No news is good news. Huey Lewis and the News.

    • Chauvelin 19/01/2019 at 1:11 am

      Fore!

    • Chauvelin 19/01/2019 at 1:12 am

      Holiday or work? Or kidnapped?

      • Chauvelin 19/01/2019 at 1:14 am

I’ve never been across the pond. Or the Irish sea, although I did make it to the Isle of Man when I was five. That’s the furthest west I’ve travelled.

Sorry for the duplicate posts. One went into moderation and I’d had too much coffee to be patient.

I’ve put one in drafts for Flatty to decide if it’s usable. I take no responsibility for anything, me.

Good man, looking forward to it 👍. Wish we weren’t last on the bill, much prefer to get the points on board and then see if the others fall short.
