Worrying news today about Glenn Hoddle being taken seriously ill whilst filming in the BT Sport studio.

I’ve no doubt that for some of you, Glenn is the reason you are Spurs fans. A legend of White Hart Lane, he epitomised the way Tottenham play, the way football should be played, and gave us 12 years of incredible memories as a player.

I’m sure I speak for everyone, not just Spurs fans, but football fans all around the world, in sending Glenn our very best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery.

    Too true

  • Chauvelin 27/10/2018 at 4:01 pm

Glenn got Spurs out of a hole and was the inspiration in the side to get straight back into division one imho. That was the springboard for Keith to rebuild the team, Ossie and Ricky, and all those memories in the 1980s. Without Hod I wonder if we’d have faltered at that difficult time?

  • Bruxie 27/10/2018 at 4:03 pm

    C’mon, Glenn.
Cannot be doing with heroes being mortal.

    • Chauvelin 27/10/2018 at 4:05 pm

Not at 61 years old. Not Glenn.

  • Chauvelin 27/10/2018 at 4:07 pm

How much would the Hoddle of 1981 be worth today?

    • foeorfreund 27/10/2018 at 4:11 pm

It’s a bloody shame they didn’t do assist stats back then. I have no doubt he’d put the likes of Eriksen, Ozil and KDB to shame.

      • Chauvelin 27/10/2018 at 4:25 pm

Glenn’s problem was his vision was streets ahead of many of his team mates. He had to think down to their level.

Lovely clips of goals FoF, but I can remember Glenn in goal in the FA Cup, and keeping United at bay.

I wonder if there are any clips of that game? Anyone recall it? I’m sure I’m not imagining that.

Glenn Hoddle: Ex-England manager ‘responding well’ after being taken seriously ill – http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46002170

  • Ronwol196061 27/10/2018 at 8:30 pm

Sorry to hear about Glen Hoddle not well
Hope he comes through it ok
I missed a lot of his football in those years but heard so much from my Dad about Hoddle (and Waddle)
    A legend for sure.

    • Chauvelin 27/10/2018 at 8:38 pm

You’d have loved his vision and ability to split defences with inch perfect passes.

    • SpurAndy 🥧🍒 27/10/2018 at 8:41 pm

  • Wasdanspurs 27/10/2018 at 8:55 pm

Latest reports are that hod is responding well. Fingers crossed. But there has been a helicopter crash possibly involving Leicester City owners. That sounds sounds terrible too.

    • Wasdanspurs 27/10/2018 at 8:57 pm

Yes, if you look at the clip I posted above at 5:01 pm it shows Glenn in goal and Ossie deftly chipping in the winner across a crowded penalty area in the dying moments of the game.

    • Frontwheel 2 27/10/2018 at 9:17 pm

      • Chauvelin 27/10/2018 at 9:38 pm

Yes, great win. I remember Glenn saying the Spurs defenders upped their game so much to help him and he didn’t have too many saves to make.

    • Frontwheel 2 27/10/2018 at 9:20 pm

A little while a go McG asked whether a (First, Annual) Flat Oeuf Society, pre-Christmas soirée might be in order and after having had a short chin-wag with our CiC this A.M. I find that one is.

The proposal is that we meet for a mid-week/away/cup game in a respectable hostelry for an evening of fun, football, food and getting fecal faced farshnickert on fiercely intoxication fire-water.

I don’t mind helping to organise the thing although I have no idea who might be interested, what fixtures are upcoming or which dates are practicable, but I am open to suggestions (although I’m not suggestible. Usually).

There are no invitations, rather every Flat Oeufer is expected to do his/her (Spursy) duty to contribute to, and take part in, the pilgrimage insofar as they are reasonably able to do so.*

FO has a venue in mind and I would suggest a date/fixture early in December as a good time to plan for.

That being said, any thoughts/ideas are encouraged and very welcome.

*No hard feelings if you can’t make it or don’t want to make it. Your status as a beloved and respected Flat Oeufer will not be diminished in any way.

Trump suggesting they needed an armed guard at synagogues isn’t helping.

  • Fatty B 27/10/2018 at 11:16 pm

So Glenn had a heart attack after a game of keepy uppy with Paul Ince.

    • Chauvelin 27/10/2018 at 11:28 pm

Really? Well, he loves his footie so to be expected he’d enjoy a little session. Hopefully they were quick to treat him in the studios and that could make all the difference.

    • Still Nil Nil 27/10/2018 at 11:49 pm

If that’s what happened, then his HA was probably due to shock with once keeping the ball up twice before it hit the deck; a record for him.

You have to consider late Monday night an advantage for us tomorrow. Not sure I buy into the pitch being sh*tty as an advantage, but in terms of travelling, they won’t be that happy.

    • Chauvelin 28/10/2018 at 11:27 am

We’re playing the team not the fans. Can’t see it will have much effect. Although the pitch condition might slow the game down. Is that good? This might be our first league draw of the season, under Poch draws have been pretty scarce. Win or bust.

      • Fatty B 28/10/2018 at 12:04 pm

Agreed. I can’t see how young, healthy chaps conveyed in luxury for a relaxing, relatively short journey will be particularly negatively effected by the timing of the game. I will probably be exhausted by KO and fall asleep before half time.

They made the stuff round the corner from Caspurs home in Mortlake I believe.

So it was made with Caspur’s fizzy effluence? Well, that’s alright then.

About Glenn Hoddle I keep reading he is serious ill but does anyone know what it was.Sounds like maybe a stroke.

    • wasdanspurs 28/10/2018 at 12:29 pm

From what I’ve read, it was a heart attack. He needed mouth-to-mouth and treatment with a defibrillator from a member of the BT backroom staff until an ambulance arrived. He’s said to be responding well to treatment now. Fingers crossed. Scary to see the pictures of him laughing and joking and messing around with a football just moments before it happened.

Sounds like Glenn had the same problem as Ginola did who had a heart attack and almost died. Ginola seems to have made a full recovery so hopefully Glenn can. Ugo Ehiogu was the other side of the coin unfortunately.

Good to hear that they had a defib on hand. Shocking someone who is having a heart attack as soon as possible is the #1 determinant for survival. Better to happen around a bunch of people than alone on your own

I see that Willian was booked for diving. Yesterday I watched Match of the Day and saw a ridiculous dive from Fulham’s Kamara. He was booked as well.

Diving should be a sending-off offence. If it were we might go a long way towards removing this blight from the game.

  • Fatty B 29/10/2018 at 9:29 am

It’s must win game tonight. Win or bust. To do or to die. Losing’s not an option. Drawing’s not an option.

If we lose tonight Eriksen/Deli/Jan/Toby will sign for Dick Emery’s shirt-lifters tomorrow morning. Lose tonight and Levy will cancel the stadium build and sell off his interest in the club by raffle – £100k per ticket. Lose tonight and Poch and Jesus will quit the club and become nihilistic Mexican cartel gun-runners, just to ease the pain.

Of course, the cataclysmic self abuse and blood-letting that will follow a lose/draw/win tonight will pale into insignificance when compared to Brexmageddon that will (never) happen in a few short months – keep cool and remember: you can check out but you can never leave. Ooh. Bit like supporting Spurs, that.

Anyhoo … Spurs to win by a goal. It won’t be easy; it won’t be like a Sunday morning, but I reckon we’ll click and come out on top in a hard fought, entertaining battle.

There’s a good chance I’ll be there tonight thanks to the ever generous Nutty-man- Nutty – big up your chest rudeboy.

Off to.do a bit of pro-bono now, so … See ya!
