Interesting Poch presser

https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/11601417/pochettino-spurs-need-to-change-transfer-policy

I’m sure many of you have seen this clip by now, and doubtless the Bedwetters will be in full stream flowing a mixture of piss and vinegar at Levy and the Flat Earthers.

However, it won’t surprise you that there was one comment which I heard as being as strong as indication of Poch’s long-term commitment to the Club and his ‘project’ as one could possibly want:

“At the moment it’s fantastic, so far so good, but we’ll see if it’s enough to challenge and be consistent in the next five years operating this way, if we’re capable to fight with the big sides in the same way that we’ve fought in the last four or five years.”

There’s a lot more in this presser and some heartening stuff. It’s all here:

In short, he’s going nowhere.

Dembele has his moments for sure and I’m glad he’s getting a decent pay off but he became increasingly frustrating. Firstly for his injury record but most importantly his lack of end product. 12 goals and 12 assists in 243 PL games is a pretty poor record for someone with his technical ability. So best of luck Moussa, but looking forward to an upgrade.

No stadium news yet. I see this as a positive, if it were “no known date yet”, then I think we’d have already heard, so reckon they are making arrangements for the test events etc before confirming in public. Could be very wrong, they could just be considering the best excuse.

That seems an awfully long way away. That must only leave 4-5 home games?

  • Shelfy 08/01/2019 at 3:50 pm

I am beginning to think we won’t play any league games at the new stadium this season
I suspect we will play an FA cup game or CL game if we make it through to later rounds and if we get a home draw.
I would think the PL would be perfectly reasonable in saying no to as few as five games
I hope I am wrong and feel for the fans that have to go to Wembley but couldn’t really argue against it if the decision was made to stop us using the new stadium.

    • Freund or Foe 08/01/2019 at 3:58 pm

Can’t quite make sense of that, mate. Wouldn’t that be the same as if the stadium were ready after 5 home games at Wembley? Get in there, ASAP.

      • Shelfy 08/01/2019 at 4:03 pm

Your response is logical. I hope that’s the argument that wins the day.

        • Freund or Foe 08/01/2019 at 4:09 pm

I can’t see how the PL/FA can change their mind and not allow 2 venues. There’s lots of talk like Colin about it being beneficial to visiting teams, but that would just be opinion, unprovable until after the event. I don’t think they’ll get involved, I hope not.

          • UnkleTaff 08/01/2019 at 4:34 pm

If we were to move in to the new stadium for the final five league games of the season we’d be playing Huddersfield in one of them.

Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, it takes us a while to get used to our new surroundings and Huddersfield beat us as a result.

Let’s also assume, for the sake of argument, that those three points were enough to keep Huddersfield up at the expense of Cardiff and Fulham.

Can you see either of those clubs not taking the Premier League to court as a consequence?

I’d imagine they’d have a bloody good case if they did.

            • Freund or Foe 08/01/2019 at 4:37 pm

No chance. How can it be proved that Huddersfield beat us because of a stadium move? It can’t.

            • Caspurs 08/01/2019 at 4:53 pm

It has nothing to do with the FA other than we’re using it’s stadium. The PL clubs would have voted on the matter, presumably a majority of 14+ teams would have given the ok for the use of two venues.

            • Sexy Beast 08/01/2019 at 5:15 pm

    • Freund or Foe 08/01/2019 at 4:27 pm

A few mil per remaining months of his contract. That’ll do too.

  • Freund or Foe 08/01/2019 at 4:19 pm

Cardiff allegedly interested in N’Jie on loan for rest of season.
You don’t need to do that, Colin, we’ve got an N’ ready and waiting for ya.

  • SeattleSpursGuy 08/01/2019 at 4:23 pm

Also talk that Leeds want Vorm on loan. Could be a decent shop window move for Vorm as he is out of contract this Summer.

Allegedly Daniel has told Real he’ll set them back 250 million euros, £224 m.
If he has named a price then he might be off after a long haggle.

Levy is 100% right for that figure.
Its difficult to haggle it too much down

    • Ronwol196061 08/01/2019 at 4:57 pm

Surely after it was known we wouldn’t start the season in Tottenham there was a contingency plan put in before anyone spent a penny at Wembley

When we were struggling at times it was Dembele who was the beast. He was one of the few that controlled the ball.
I would agree that he didn’t score hardly and he rarely even created goals but his strength at times and ball control in the middle was a great steadying factor in so many games.
We needed more. We are getting it with Sissoko but we really could do with a World Class central midfielder. They are very difficult to find as we know.
Is Winks possible or Skipp for the future? We don’t know. Buying one that has strength and talent is very difficult to find.
If Eriksen did go. The money might help us as we have a plethora of AM’s but very few CM’s.
It would allow a top notch player to come in and be that General type but who?

“95% of the squad are happy”.

So that’s around 1.25 players unhappy. I’d go George Kev and Wanyama’s right knee?

The BBC say Giroud, Willian and Pedro are all available for tonight, and maybe Kovacic. Basically their entire squad except Loftus-Cheek.

It’s just Spurs who resemble a Red Cross field station after Passchendaele.

Chelsea XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Barkley; Hudson-Odoi, Hazard, Willian.

  • UnkleTaff 08/01/2019 at 7:08 pm

    No strength in depth, eh?

We’ve named a very strong starting 11 and have a bench of Lloris, Davies, Forth, Walker-Peters, Skipp, Lamela and Llorente.

To say nothing of those currently out due to injury.
