ENIC OUT BLAH BLAH

An introductory guest bloeug by Elyid aka El Cid

ENIC OUT BLAH BLAH BLAH

As a way of introduction to the blog.

I have been a supporter of the chicken badge for over 50 years now, it hasn’t always been easy but maybe that is what being a supporter is, enjoying the emotions of the roller coaster ride. I think right now is as good a time for our club as I can remember, we have a great manager who has put together an exciting team, they are giving us something to cheer and something to be proud of but most of all they are giving us a real belief that probably hasn’t been there for a long time.

To win trophies would of course make the whole experience of being a Spurs supporter even more special but if we do not lift a trophy this year I will still love our club next year.

I have long ago accepted that winning in any major sport has just as much to do with the opposition as it has to do with what our team is doing, that may sound strikingly obvious to most but it does seem to bypass the thoughts of many of the ENIC out brigade. For example, Man City have riches beyond our wildest dreams, as a result they have one of the most successful managers of the modern era. Pep is effectively playing fantasy football and has amassed a squad of world class, highly talented individuals, who, on their day and when playing as a team are capable of beating anyone. Should they play to their full potential in every game it is not inconceivable that they would win everything, a bit like Barcelona in their pomp. We, IMO, are as good as any other team in the chasing pack so were they to slip up at any time then we have as good a chance as anyone else of taking advantage.

That for me is how modern sport works, Formula One is the same, should evrything go to plan on the day, either Mercedes or Ferrari will win, everyone else on the grid is simply waiting and hoping that they will slip up. The direct correlation between extreme wealth and sporting success may be distasteful but it is reality.

The anti ENIC brigade like nothing more than to trawl the internet looking for any negative information on any subject that might open another door to heap yet more vulgar critisism upon our owners and further their own cause to insist on the removal of ENIC. Personally I know precious little regarding the decision makers that run our club but then who really does know? We can all respond to the latest rumours and the oh so reliable ITK but the fact is that this is the way most big businesses operate, behind closed doors. What I do know is that they put their money where their mouth is at the appropriate time and they now own the club, like it or loathe it that is how it is. If the Notspurs of this world truly are sooo much smarter than our current owners then how is it that Joe owns the club and not them? Slightly faceciuos I know but he who pays the piper etc etc.

These are indeed interesting times for the Notspurs, the what if’s are looking dangerously ominous. What if in the same year ENIC provide the club with one of the best stadiums in Europe we actually lift a trophy and what if they manage to do this without spending the hundreds of millions that we supposedly needed to do in order to simply keep up? Where does that leave the Notspurs?

I hope every year that we will win something, I also hope each year that we qualify for the CL as this is also a modern measure of success but most of all at this time I hope that we keep this manager and that he in turn continues to steer this great club in the right direction because if he does then surely we can all begin to believe… can’t we?

Good Luck Taff. Steambowl everyone before you.

      Cheers, boss.

I have to say that if you can’t be involved in a title race then a relegation battle is the next best thing. Mid-table mediocrity is just a waste of everybody’s time.

Good blog Elyid. I’ve wondered precisely where a certain gentleman will hide his blushes if, or rather when, Levy proudly holds silverware in the best stadium in the country.

Perhaps this is why he is busily deleting so many past blogs?

    • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 10:50 am

I can’t think of any of our current line up that was slaughtered by that gentleman at somebody point, they had all been ridiculed and written off. I can even recall HK being referrred to as “that mouth breather” when he first started to show his potential.

When he fires off his invective about winning being ‘the only metric’ (a favourite phrase) he seemed to ignore the fact there are 19 other teams and they all want to win stuff; and God help us all if the teams in the lower leagues don’t want to win a cup as well, the devils!

When Spurs got relegated it didn’t stop me supporting the lilywhites; in fact I went to more games in the second division as I upped my support and wanted to shout the boys back up!

        • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 10:59 am

*winning silverware is the ‘only metric’

      • John Peddubriwny 01/09/2018 at 11:09 am

        @elyid: Great intro.

I always see a similarity between Brexiteers and the ENIC out mob. So we are now leaving the EU, but what are we leaving it to go into and what do we replace it with? In the same way, we get rid of ENIC, but who do we replace them with?

I am pretty sure that you can put an ad in the local jobcentre for a new manager and there will be unemployed coaches who can apply. If it were within our power to sack ENIC, how do we go about finding a new owner?

When I’ve raised the question before about “Who do you want to replace ENIC with, nobody has ever given me an answer. I then point out some of their predecessors: Sugar? He could probably done a similar job to Levy were it not for the fact that he was busily running Amstrad. Scholar? He was the root cause of us descending into mediocrity to begin with, and came so close to ruining us, that we were almost sold to Robert Maxwell.

To call for ENIC out without any clue as to what they will be replaced with is tantamount to the family breadwinner making himself homeless and jobless, just because he can.

        • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 11:14 am

            Exactly my point.

        • Sexy Beasts 01/09/2018 at 11:28 am

In an ideal world relace them with owners like Man City’s, this is however highly unlikely to happen so stick at the min.
Brexit is about taking back control of our law making decisions and not being governed by unelected Politburo style policy makers.
Off to golf now Looozzzzers have a great day and come on Lesta, Bournemouth and Wolves.

          • John Peddubriwny 01/09/2018 at 12:03 pm

The comment about “an ideal world” really does nothing for their clarity. It’s the equivalent of saying “I want Bill Gates to buy us”, when Bill Gates has no interest in football, let alone us.

But let’s assume that somewhere out there, there is a Sugar Daddy looking to indulge in a vanity project, why would he put a football club at the top of his shopping list? Why would he put our club at the top of his list? The “ENIC out” mob seem to think that if they can get rid of ENIC, the queue of sugar daddies will be endless. They will be lucky if there is one who even shows interest.

            • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 12:11 pm

All the time we are making progress, maybe slowly in somebody areas, we stuck with what we have

            • foeorfreund 01/09/2018 at 12:12 pm

Agree. A football club is a strange investment. Financial gains are very much a long term thing, only achievable over a long term, and through selling your interest. Vanity project is spot on.

  • UnkleTaff 01/09/2018 at 10:54 am

It’s a point of view that is much scorned in some quarters, but I’m a firm believer in the idea of doing things the right way. There is no glory, in my eyes, in winning if you’ve had to distort the playing field in order to do it and it’s why I deplore cheating in all its forms. If you play to the rules and are fairly beaten by an opponent who does likewise you just have to accept you were beaten by a better team on the day, congratulate them on their victory and move on.

Thankfully, the club I support allows me (in the main) to do so with pride in that regard.

    • UnkleTaff 01/09/2018 at 10:59 am

Hatespur’s constant bleating of ‘winning stuff’ reminds me of the irritating child in the back of the car screaming “are we there yet” at every available opportunity.

Just shut up and enjoy the ride, you annoying little twerp.

  • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 01/09/2018 at 11:09 am

Very articulate well written piece Elyid!
I think where some of these naysayers are missing it is they have gone to the land of mistrust, a land of cynicism. This is not healthy.
When fans see what could be, I think constructive criticism is the way to go. Unfortunately for even them the curve has been swinging upward for us and Poch is focused on winning so even they have little chance to legitimately complain.
Struggle is a part of life and to rally enjoy the rewards when they finally come wouldnt be experienced as richly if we simply bought success. Look at Mourinho who buys 150 mil quid players and sounds like a pauper.
ENIC are conservative business who value money. They were not born with silver spoons. They worked hard for what they have and they are not playing Monopoly with the money. Maybe they would do a better job of running some of our countries. They are based in reality. They make mistakes for sure but everybody does. We are a rich club in more than money even though the synics would say totally the opposite

    • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 11:18 am

I completely agree! Would anyone’s else agree with the thought that this great team ethos we have, the apparent bond between the players makes it even more difficult fo is to buy the marque signings? What would the affect on the rest of the team be if we parachuted in a 50 – 60 million pond signing who simply would have to play to justify the fee?

      • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 11:19 am

Apologies for the typos, trying to multi task !

        • Bruxie 01/09/2018 at 11:30 am

          TEAMOSPHERE

      • Flat Oeuf 01/09/2018 at 11:28 am

I think if we bought a proper star with a genuine work ethic (Bale/Modric) it would be understood. As long as he was delivering and it took us to the next level, I think it would be accepted by the group.

        • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 01/09/2018 at 11:57 am

I too thought that we need that type player..a CM powerhouse. But I think we are showing our team creativity has gone up with flows through the opponents half especially as Moura is moving the ball well allowing Eriksen to sit a bit deeper

      • foeorfreund 01/09/2018 at 11:32 am

Yerp, I’d agree with that. I think it’s a much to do with personalities of a player, not just the transfer fee, although big ego’s seem to coincide with big transfer fees.
Take Pogba for example, a player that I feel is very good, though somewhat overrated. He constantly makes comments to the media that contradict the club and the manager, which leaves me with the impression of a selfish, self centred individual. Then look our our players and the way they speak to the media. Danny Rose’s spontaneous human combustion aside, all our players speak in the same way as the manager and the club. Even Tobes has kept publicly professional throughout what has obviously been a challenging time.
There’s a togetherness at the club, between the manager, the owner, the staff, the players and the fans that I’ve hardly seen in football.

        • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 11:35 am

It’s exactly that that makes it so special at the moment, I get the feeling we have really good individuals but one hell of a team

      • UnkleTaff 01/09/2018 at 11:36 am

This is one of the reasons why I *didn’t* want us to bring in a marque signing to herald the opening of the new stadium. We currently have the best striker in the world on our books and he has earned the right to christen it.

Terrific effort Elyid aka El Cid.

Being an eternal optimist and as flat as they come where Spurs are concerned I’m happy far more often than the naysayers and generally unpleasant types whom we all know only too well. I get quite upset sometimes when we lose and can get quite stressed watching our struggles, although that’s happened far less frequently in recent seasons. Sometimes I find myself just shrugging my shoulders when we lose or draw. Spurs are a big part of my life and I consider myself a fanatic, but it doesn’t dominate me. When the game’s over I turn to the rest of my life. This journey that we’re all on is different for each of us and we all remember different things and the same things differently. There have been some things gone on with the club’s owners that people can be rightly upset about, but there are ways to be upset which do not involve the bilious and libelous vitriol that we see from certain members of the club’s “support”. It’s got to a stage for some where it’s overtaken all reason and now seems just a way of being. What a dreadfully destructive place to be. The club is generally doing things in a right and proper way and for that I am grateful. We are progressing season on season. Dropping from 2nd to 3rd does not represent regression, especially taking into consideration our perfomanaces in last year’s Champions League. The zero-transfer window was a joy to behold for its surpise value alone and keeping our best and brightest from the clutches of our rivals and European counterparts. This was by definition ‘brave’. Trophies will follow.

    Watch us continue to rise.

    Babbling time over.

The comment about “an ideal world” really does nothing for their clarity. It’s the equivalent of saying “I want Bill Gates to buy us”, when Bill Gates has no interest in football, let alone us.
But let’s assume that somewhere out there, there is a Sugar Daddy looking to indulge in a vanity project, why would he put a football club at the top of hined shopping list? Why would he put our club at the top of his list? The “ENIC out” mob seem to think that if they can get rid of ENIC, the queue of sugar daddies will be endless. They will be lucky if there is one who even shows interest.

When we were in the doldrums it would have been easy to think that we wanted a sugar daddy to buy instant success. We were desperate but not we see great growth and growth earned by hard work and clever moves,we can see how much more rewarding it would be to win using blood and sweat rather than a signature on a piece of paper. They have earned 2nds and 3rds and if they do reach the summit it would be summat

    • John Peddubriwny 01/09/2018 at 12:38 pm

@Ronwol: My point about sugar daddies is that since Roman got involved, the game has moved on considerably. When he was subsidising Cheatski at an average of £70 mill a year, he really was the only player in that game and he was spending less than 1% of his net wealth annually. Along came the Arabs and it is now requiring sums of up to £250 mill a year, and that spending is being curtailed by FFPR.

RA was playing Three Card Brag with every hand being a “blind”. The rules of that game are that the man with the most money automatically wins the game. His problem was that when the Arabs arrived, they had bigger wallets than he did so that tactic no longer worked.

And that is why there will be so few (if any) sugar daddies waiting to take over from ENIC or any other team for that matter.

      • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 12:44 pm

Get the feeling that RA would be happy to bail now that he isn’t no longer too dog in the money stakes

Great job of writing El. I don’t need to wait to believe, I already do! Here is what I base my belief upon. Money does not guarantee winning (assuming winning stuff is the goal.) Great players do not guarantee winning. A coordinated effort to make key purchases, provide quality facilities, have a youth/growth academy system, a quality coaching staff and manager who has the ability to put it all together and develop a cohesive squad that believe in each other will lead to winning. I believe we have/are doing all of the above. I’m a believer and I couldn’t leave her if I tried.

    61 Spurs Nut
    COYFS!

Bloody well enjoyed reading every word of that! You and me being born on the same day means we see eye to eye on all things Tottenham that is for sure, you are a top geezer Nutty.

    SpurAndy
T** **y’s had his identity stolen!

Since when do people write for a ‘newspaper’ under an alias? I know there is the Secret Footballer, but he actually was someone inside the game. HH is just someone who once attended matches but now says he never will again.

    • 89Spurs 👁 01/09/2018 at 7:38 pm

He’s a parasite, making a living off the back of Tottenham Hotspur.
He should stick to selling, expensive t-shirts.

      • Fat Bertha 01/09/2018 at 9:14 pm

Gawd knows how he’s on The Sun, but I can’t see it wanting to be associated with him once it realises what he’s about.

      • Fat Bertha 01/09/2018 at 9:23 pm

Someone else suggested that very thing to me a few weeks back after Arsenal were said to be clamping down on Arse TV. The someone was wondering if THFC could do anything to stem the flow of vitriol that floods his blog.

    • Fat Bertha 01/09/2018 at 9:11 pm

And there was a secret lemonade drinker.

      • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 9:21 pm

I liked him a lot. A fav advert.

  • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 9:40 pm

“Context of course, is everything and when you drill into the Opta stats, Spurs weren’t truly magnificent in every department.”
Well we we’re in the stats that really count!

    • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 9:41 pm

Oh, isn’t he choosing his words with care… for once.

  • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 9:43 pm

T** **Y has been deleting his old blogs and only recent ones are available. Is he wiping his trail because of his new friends at the Sun?

    • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 9:45 pm

I hadn’t realised TalkSport was part of Murdoch’s empire till just now. But not surprised when you consider the standards they set.

    • Frontwheel 2 01/09/2018 at 9:47 pm

Time to let The Boy go.

      • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 9:52 pm

If you love them, you’ll let them go free.
        I know, I know.

        • 89Spurs 👁 01/09/2018 at 9:54 pm

          Cut out poison.

        • Frontwheel 2 01/09/2018 at 9:55 pm

Lets be honest,he was an ignorant cunt long before this blog was started, most just went along with it against their better judgement.

          • Caspurs 01/09/2018 at 9:57 pm

    Match day tomorrow

    • 89Spurs 👁 01/09/2018 at 10:15 pm

My prediction for tomorrow is: Watford 1 -Tottenham 2.
      End of story!!!

      • Elyid 01/09/2018 at 10:19 pm

        0 – 3

        • John Peddubriwny 02/09/2018 at 9:16 am

@Elyid: So you are predicting top of the table by the end of the day? And why not?

      • Ronwol196061 01/09/2018 at 10:23 pm

89 you are going out on a limb here I think

        • 89Spurs 👁 01/09/2018 at 10:24 pm

          What’s your score then?

          • Ronwol196061 01/09/2018 at 10:27 pm

            See below

  • Ronwol196061 01/09/2018 at 10:13 pm

It’s all gone whacky of here.!

    No its Not!

    Yes it is!

4 Days before the end of the window EVERYBODY including me and excluding Taff… were pulling their hair out about us not buying anyone!!!!!

    • 89Spurs 👁 01/09/2018 at 10:18 pm

We’re getting an new signing, not quite but Son is coming home 🏠

      • Ronwol196061 01/09/2018 at 10:22 pm

Moura is the best signing we’ve had since Christmas

    • 89Spurs 👁 01/09/2018 at 10:23 pm

What’s your prediction for tomorrow Ron?

      • Ronwol196061 01/09/2018 at 10:27 pm

The envelope is closed I think it was 3-1 to us or 2-1
But I also think that it could be a draw
It will be a very physical game and our flair players have to make things happen but there will be pain.
I’d not be surprised if there were not a couple of red cards

        • Ronwol196061 01/09/2018 at 10:28 pm

          I have us winning 3-2

        • 89Spurs 👁 01/09/2018 at 10:31 pm

Hey Ron you’ve really hedged your bets there, just cut the chase and give us one shot from the hip.
          Got the 2 – 3 recorded.
Be happy with the win !😎

        • John Peddubriwny 02/09/2018 at 9:18 am

Tripps to score: He always plays his best games again Watford

    • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 10:40 pm

I think I said I’d tolerate it IF Toby and Mousa stayed.

  • 89Spurs 👁 01/09/2018 at 10:38 pm

Time to turn in. Night all.
    Happy 😃 dreams.

0-4. I’m hedging it a bit because we are away.

      The Sun, Talkshite, and HH.

A marriage made in heaven. Presumably there’ll be no more rude words tolerated about TalkSport in his blog?

  • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 11:16 pm

Spurs playing catch up two matchdays on the trot. Just a little extra pressure.

  • Shelfy 01/09/2018 at 11:20 pm

Did anyone see this interview with Eric Dier.
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/09/01/eric-dier-dont-understand-thinkjust-spending-money-going-resolve/
Good insight into the team mentality. Though I must admit I think we fans have ‘suffered’ enough over the years

    • Chauvelin 01/09/2018 at 11:48 pm

It’s an insight into Diet’s mentality. What he says is arguable. A good coach can work with his players but if a coach thinks he has poor players… You can’t make silk purses out of sows ears. Sometimes you have to buy players; but buying players is not a solution to every problem.
And in addition it’s not just about improving the squad, sometimes it’s about ensuring the squad has cover in all positions. We don’t know if Gazzaniga is going to be as good as Lloris, and Vorm probably isn’t, but you need cover for your goalkeeper.

Hatespur is sucking for air. His blog is in serious trouble or he would never be whoring after an audience in The Sun. Hats off to everyone who made Flat Oeuf the nice place it is. All of the talent that made T** **y a success despite himself has immigrated to this splendid site.

Kudos to all, and fort tomorrow–COYMFS!! Watford 1-Spurs 3

    I LOL’d

West Ham have a 35% win rate at the London stadium. The following teams have a better win rate at London stadium than West Ham ➡️

    Spurs
    City
    Liverpool
    Man united
    Chelsea
    Arsenal
    Brighton
    Newcastle
    Burnley
    Watford
    Southampton
    Leicester
    Wolves

    🤣🤣🤣⚽️

Nice debut Elyid. Very much on point and I agree with every bit of it.
Looks like Sonny came up smelling of Roses. Leverlee Jublee!
Watford will be a decent test for us at their place. I hope we will squeak it by the odd goal in three.
I’ve signed up to Ron’s new predictor league. Hoping we can get a few more!?

My hope is they’re sitting on six having fluked wins over Chelsea and man u. Terribly run club though. I feel for their old time quality fans. Didn’t seem so much hatred between us when I first started following spurs.

For years the Unholy Trinity who run Rentboys FC have managed to deflect attention by having a silly dig at us. I think even the most stupid of their fans are beginning to see through that.

Dropping from 2nd to 3rd does not represent regression, especially taking into consideration our perfomanaces in last year’s Champions League.

In assessing whether we are improving the league table by itself only gives a perspective on the PL. You are right to mention our CL performance. Yes both Manure and Shitty both overtook us in the PL last season, and when they spend the best part of £500 Mill to do that, we should not be over surprised. But I take the overall picture of how we are doing from the Euroclubindex, which had us ranked 19th best team in Europe at the beginning of the season and 9th at the end of it.

To give you some idea as to how accurate the ECI may be, seven of the eight teams above us are first seeds in the CL (Lokomotiv being missing for obvious reasons) and the eighth was Napoli.

  • Matt 02/09/2018 at 9:33 am

Nice blog. I think it’s possible to have a reasoned set of arguments against ENIC; though personally I don’t subscribe to them. But most Enic out seem to just hurl daft abuse at the club and team; calling a fantastic new stadium a lav (haven’t they noticed all football stadiums are oval?) or deciding Alli is useless or Moura is sh&t (after 2 games) is just anti Spurs not anti Enic.

Enic aren’t perfect but there’s a clear strategy to make us a bigger club, and much as we loved WHL how many European giants have a 35k stadium?

    • Freund or Foe 02/09/2018 at 9:55 am
