Does anyone really care about tonight’s result? I know I friggin’ well do. COYS!

I’d rather we go all-out for the CL now and concentrate on an all-out assault on this season’s Prem as well!

What say you?

Hugo / Doris should have been stripped of the captaincy. Weak management I’m afraid.

This was a masterclass in Clusterfuck, an epic of tomfoolery.

    As the old song goes:

If there’s a wrong way to say it
And a right way to play it
    Nobody does it like me

If there’s a wrong way to do it
A right way to screw it up, ha
    Nobody does it like me

If there’s a wrong way to keep it cool
A right way to be a fool
    Nobody does it like me

        • Hartley 24/10/2018 at 8:37 pm

He knows he’s untouchable no matter how many times he messes up, for every ten fuck ups there’s a great save or three. How do you drop the World Cup winning captain when you didn’t drop him after he was found guilty of drink driving?

          • SpurAndy 🥧🍒 24/10/2018 at 8:41 pm

I think it’s the other way, 10 great saves and 3 f*ck ups. Still think he’s an asset not a liability but admit the gap is significantly narrowing atm.

            • Wasdanspurs 24/10/2018 at 8:50 pm

I think the screw up he made in the wc final has affected him. His greatest achievement and a comedy blooper he can’t live down hanging over it. He’s been screwing up personally and professionally ever since. Though he was always capable of a screw up.

Every dog has his day and Hugo Lloris as Captain and by bad example has shown a tremendous amount of recklessness lately, something you have failed to register. Its the negatove side of gallantry. Chances he needlessly had to take like driving under the influence and not being very influential as a captain in general

          Yep, he’s registered.

  • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 9:07 am

Those of you who feel the need to throw mud at Davies should ask yourselves why Poch sticks with him if he’s that bad. Aurier or KWP can play left back. But I notice that they aren’t. It was Trippier who conceded the weak free kick that lead to their equaliser. In fact, if you care to review the game it wasn’t Davies’s side of the pitch where PSV got all their best openings.

    • McG ⚽⚽ 25/10/2018 at 9:11 am

Poch isn’t sticking with him tho, been playing Rose when not injured.

      • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 9:14 am

You mean rotation? Which Poch does even when both are available.

        • McG ⚽⚽ 25/10/2018 at 9:15 am

No, he def been favouring Rose this season, I agree with him too.

    • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 9:13 am

And also consider that in Vertinghen absence, we are fielding two right footed CBs so that there is extra burden on Davies (or Rose if he can stay fit for more than one game per month) to nursemaid his side of the pitch. Maybe he is under instructions to play with more caution?

      • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 9:23 am

Does that affect his ability to pass to his own team mates, rather than the opposition? His distribution is awful.

        • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 9:41 am

Passing stats last night (pass success rate)-
          Sanchez 95.6%
          Tobes 94.2%
          Trips 82.4%
          Davies 77.4%
          Mousa 93.3%
          Dier 84.2%
          Son 88.6%
          Eriksen 80.3%
          Moura 92.3%
          Kane 89.5%

          Kinda stands out, don’t it?

          • SpurAndy 🥧🍒 25/10/2018 at 9:51 am

Yep have to admit that is quite damming, although tbh I didn’t notice it last night. We were by far the superior team last night and had enough chances to bury them and I don’t think he was at fault for any of there goals as far as I can remember so his performance really didn’t make much difference did it?

            • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 9:56 am

That’s tough to quantify. If he’d had a mid-eighties pass success rate, maybe one of those passes would have led to a goal? Butterfly effect. You can easily say that about any player, of course, but it certainly didn’t help.

              • SpurAndy 🥧🍒 25/10/2018 at 9:59 am

Fair do’s fofty, as I say I’d be happy to let KWP have a run out soon but my preference would always be for a fit, focused Rose.

                • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 10:04 am

Yep, agree. I think most teams in the country, and maybe Europe would prefer a fit and focused Rose. When he’s on his game, there aren’t many better.
It’s a shame about Davies, initially I didn’t think he was good enough, but he proved me wrong over the past few seasons. Hope he can regain that form.

          • UnkleTaff 25/10/2018 at 10:05 am

Not really. Tripper’s success rate ain’t that much better. As a wing/full back he’d be expected to play a lot more long balls (eg crosses) than someone like Sanchez, for example. It kind of goes with the territory that his success rate won’t be so high as players in other positions.

            • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 10:12 am

Of course, he wouldn’t have the same as the centre backs who mostly play sideways, but he doesn’t get forward and cross anywhere near as much as Trips. Davies average position for the match last night was in his own half, Trips was in the oppositions. Each to their own, but his distribution last night stood out for me, big time, as it has done on other occasions this season.

              • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 10:22 am

Trips 4 crosses, 6 long balls.
Davies 1 cross, 3 long balls.

                • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 10:25 am

Trips 70 out of 85 passes successful.
                  Davies 48 out of 62.

                  • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 10:45 am

Trips is very very good. That doesn’t make Davies bad.

          • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 10:43 am

Those stats are a crude measure. The number of back passes and negative passes just rack up. Whereas from my recollection Davies was attempting to link up with Son going forward. Which of course are riskier passes more liable to get cut out.

Davies is being made an unwarranted scapegoat.

            • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 10:49 am

Bear in mind Son can be a liability and for me had one of his weaker games. Davies has a lot of responsibility covering Son who doesn’t always make it easy trying to find him with a pass.

              • Hartley 25/10/2018 at 10:51 am

                The Son doesn’t always shine.

            • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 10:56 am

Crikey. I’m not making him a scapegoat, we lost because we can’t make our possession stats turn into goals, we lack the ability to penetrate, which has been obvious all season. I don’t blame Hugo, Tobes or Davies for the result, but I sure as hell don’t think Davies is playing anywhere near as good enough as we need him to. The stats support this, most other players apart from the CB’s try riskier passes too, and the stats show they are more successful than Davies’s attempts. Blaming Son for Davies’s bad passing doesn’t make any sense.

              • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 11:13 am

I’m not blaming anyone. Just pointing out stats don’t come with a full description of circumstances.

                • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 11:15 am

On this regard remember how a certain blogger on another site lives and dies by his use of stats. Beware.

                  • foeorfreund 25/10/2018 at 11:27 am

I only used the stats to back up my original thoughts about Davies’s performance, as you can see above. I felt his distribution was terrible, and then checked the stats which backed this. Unk correctly stated that it’s not as clear cut as that, Davies’s position means he is expected to play more long balls and crosses, but the stats show that in last nights game, he didn’t do this either.
So do you think Davies had a good game?

                    • ronwol196061 25/10/2018 at 11:33 am

Davies has been terrible for the longest time. I much prefer a fit Rose and think he will come on a ton as it goes along

Hugo made one bad call last night and got sent off in the process. He could have come charging out when Toby made his mistake but didn’t which was the right call as Tobes got back to tackle the player. Very fine margins in both instances, one he got right, one he got wrong. Other than that I don’t think he made a mistake. He was superb against the Spammers. I still rate him as one of the best in the world.
Don’t see much wrong with Davis either but would be happy to see KWP have a run out.

One bad call which cost us two points, he was also quite awful against Barcelona giving them a head start that we could have well done without. The first goal last night which took an eternity to go into the back of the net, he made no attempt whatsoever to even attempt to reach it.

Son, Moura and Eriksen have little-to-no physical presence in our midfield. Starting any two of them in the same game is asking for trouble; starting all three of them is borderline suicidal.

    • ronwol196061 25/10/2018 at 11:29 am

Eriksen just came off an injury and while he helped the flow quite a bit his final ball never got to where he intended.

Son wasnt really in midfield but was also diabolically ineffective as he has been for some time.

The lump Moura in with Son is terrible

and when talking about presence in midfield surely Dembele lets say Winks.
While Dembele never hits the telling ball,he does have presence in power in midfield (I dont like his consistently getting all emotional and irrational mind you)

Kane and Son seem to try to hard an got nowhere.

We should have easily won this game but couldnt put them away despite them giving us a ton of room

One think I agree with you is that we should be Grealish. He has control and can move the ball.We need something like that.I think we should get rid of Son

The bottom line is that we are quite clearly the second best team in the group but 10 slack final minutes (five at Milan and another five last night) will almost certainly end up costing us a place in the CL knock-out rounds.

Having said that, I fully expect us to be second by the time the final game is played which means our fate will be in our own hands.

    Albeit against Barcelona.

    At the Camp Nou.

But there is always a chance that PSV might snatch a draw at the San Siro.

    We’re still in this.

The debate about Hugo is going to continue.
I don’t think we have any choice other than to make up a list of potential replacements.
No other keeper in the PL is enduring such criticism. He’s taken over from Mignolet.
Burnley have three keepers – Heaton, Pope & Hart. Or have two of them moved on? Butland. Pickford. And those are just PL players, apart from Butland at present.
Throwing in Vorm or Gazzi to replace Hugo for UCL games only is detrimental to our continuity and disrupts the flow. The incoming keeper for the remaining UCL games needs a run in the side – or we risk playing Barca, Inter & PSV with a keeper with no match fitness and no relationship with the rest of the defence.
    Big decisions to be made.
A solution to a lot of what Hugo does wrong is curing his distribution problems. Stop trying to play the ball out of defence as much. Don’t eliminate it entirely – but halve it. Kick it long or throw it out sometimes.
Had we won 3-2, as we should have, we’d still be having the debate.
It isn’t going to go away.

    • Bruxie 25/10/2018 at 11:36 am

Poch HAS to be asking his scouting staff to find him a replacement keeper. In total confidence.
If he isn’t he isn’t doing his job properly.

      • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 1:23 pm

We need to replace Vorm first. Can’t keep Vorm and get rid of Lloris, and can’t surely get rid of both in one go?

  • Bruxie 25/10/2018 at 11:39 am

One thought flashed across my mind last night as I watched the players and staff troop off the pitch.
Is Poch thinking “Have I taken this lot as far as I can take them..?”
He needs backing in a big way or we just might lose him.

  • Ronwol196061 25/10/2018 at 12:34 pm

    I kind of agree Bruxie
I also think he can’t seem to rid the Spursy out of the Spurs.
We do need some upgrades though.

    • Chauvelin 25/10/2018 at 1:26 pm

Kovacic out there yesterday might have cured the Spursy. Time to bring in some more steel to CM.

  • UnkleTaff 25/10/2018 at 1:45 pm

I think it’s time we let Pochettino go. His replacement is ready and waiting:

Sorry Unk, thats what Dier, Dembele & Wanyama are on the books for. Sonny had a bad game. Moura is extremely strong on the ball & puts hiself about as it goes. It should have been Lamela, Moura & Eriksen imo, but that ain’t suicide, that’s going for goals. We should never have drawn either, just one of those games.
