11 Minutes To Go

Oi, Gareth, you’ve got eleven minutes to prevent ME looking like a prat.

Final call for the relaunch of the much lauded (by me) “Nutty Spurs” Fantasy Football League before the first game tonight.

You can join simply by using the following link. You’ll be added automatically after you’ve created your squad and entered the game:

PS – There is one rule to rule them all – NO GOONERS. Failure to comply will result in a summary dismissal from my league.

PPS – In addition to the one rule there is another rule henceforth to be known as the second one rule – NO JACK FACKIN’ WHEELCHAIR. See above for punishment.

Feel free to invite others to join in the fun.

    Did we sign anyone?

      Footballer type? No!!

        But we have 9 minutes.

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 4:54 pm

I was hopeful that Llorente might leave for West Ham.

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 4:57 pm

Not a single fresh face. Daniel said big transfers were unsustainable, and now he’s putting that to the test.

Can you keep an eye out for anyone threatening to throw their season ticket away. I’m happy to get them at least 50% of the cost back.

    • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 4:59 pm

I think the ITK gang over at Spurs Community will be strung up by their testicles. Or Kevan Grealish.

        …will be laughing…

      • DAVID 09/08/2018 at 5:00 pm

    ZERO NET SPEND! Hurrah!!

    • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 5:04 pm

Not true — we actually received a couple of mil for selling Keanan Bennetts to Borrusia MG.

  • SeattleSpursGuy 09/08/2018 at 5:02 pm

Tottenham have become the first Premier League club in history to make no signings in a summer transfer window since it was introduced in 2003

I’m tearing the B, A, L and fackin E off as we speak.

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:04 pm

My sincere hope is that Pochettino wasn’t speaking through gritted teeth earlier.

  • SeattleSpursGuy 09/08/2018 at 5:05 pm

“If we cannot improve our squad it’s better to keep it together. When it’s not possible it’s not possible and you have to move on and believe in the way we work and be competitive.”

I love Poch, but I’m not down with this. When you’re talking about our best 11, OK, who’s an upgrade that doesn’t cost the earth? I get that. But Sissoko? No one in world football is an affordable upgrade? Llorente? N’Koudou? Jannsen? No ‘one for the future’ youngster worth a punt? I’m not having it.

  • stevo1987 09/08/2018 at 5:07 pm

Life goes on. I must just pop across to the funny farm and see how they are taking it. Self harm city.

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:09 pm

Last season we finished 23 points behind City. Have we decided that it wasn’t possible to close that gap?

    • foeorfreund 09/08/2018 at 5:16 pm

Ah, the old “transfer spend means points” equation.

      • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:17 pm

And the opposite means improvement? How does that work?

        • foeorfreund 09/08/2018 at 5:19 pm

Have we not had virtually a zero net spend over the last 5 seasons?

          • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:22 pm

Surely you’re not equating this window to those? We finished our trading with a balanced account. There’s simply been no trading this time.

            • foeorfreund 09/08/2018 at 5:30 pm

Chelsea, reigning PL champions, had a net spend of 68mil in last seasons windows, but were 23 points worse off.
Everton had a net spend of 84mil in last seasons windows, third only to City and Utd, but were 12 points worse off.

Player trading didn’t work out too well for either of them, did it?

I don’t see how you can suggest that because we have not spent, we have “decided” that it isn’t possible to close the gap.

              • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:48 pm

If Chelsea had kept Costa and Matic they would have been far more potent. Conté made big mistakes and he’s gone in consequence. Mismanagement, can’t dismiss that so I reject that example. Everton had a squad of strangers, bad management. Also rejected.

                • foeorfreund 09/08/2018 at 5:52 pm

You’ve actually just proved my point.

        • Sexy Beast 09/08/2018 at 5:22 pm

I think playing at our “home” ground might just help a smidge.

          • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:24 pm

We weren’t bad at Wembley after those tricky first few games. There’s some leeway for improvement.

    • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 5:21 pm

No one’s catching City this year. We might get a bit closer to them but they are so much better than everyone else at the moment second is the best we can realistically hope for.

      • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:24 pm

I think that’s the case, it’s City’s to screw up. Fingers crossed.

  • Matt 09/08/2018 at 5:09 pm

Did the window “slam” shut this year? Or did it just close quietly?

    • 61 Spurs Nut 🌰 09/08/2018 at 5:10 pm

      What window?

  • SeattleSpursGuy 09/08/2018 at 5:16 pm

    My last moan:

23 points. That’s how far back we were from Man City last season. Have we improved for this season? Well, the team is settled and a year more experienced, including seasoning in the World Cup. That has value, but no way it’s worth 23 points.

The way I see it, we’re hoping City are less imperious, ManU and Liverpool aren’t greatly improved and we turn it up a notch.

    That isn’t a plan. It’s wishful thinking.

Anyway, it’s over. Roll on Saturday

    • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:27 pm

Citeh are settled too. They managed to find someone they think will give them a boost in Mahrez.

      • SeattleSpursGuy 09/08/2018 at 5:30 pm

        • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:40 pm

Funny they succeeded, but it was beyond the wit of Spurs to do likewise.

  • SpurAndy 🍒 🥧 09/08/2018 at 5:18 pm

Sauces have reported SpurAndy telling his wife that the transfer window has slammed shut without any business being done by Tottenham. Mrs SpurAndy was understood to be livid and called for a day of reckoning. These are unconfirmed reports and SpurAndy was said to be uncontactable until further notice but that he was seeking advice from his lawyers.
(The bit about Mrs SpurAndy might be slightly exaggerated. Okay, she didn’t even know there was a transfer deadline. Actually she couldn’t give a rats *rse.)

  • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 5:20 pm

So it looks like we had a couple of players in mind that would have improved the squad, but when we couldn’t get them we didn’t fall back on second-rate fill-ins just to say ‘we signed somebody’.

    I’m happy with that.

    • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:26 pm

Yep, happy with no new Sissoko to try and fit in somewhere, anywhere…

Anon: No need for Spurs to sign players for the sake of it. No one worth buying, so we’ll just have to do with the 8 World Cup semi finalists, Captain of the World Cup and the Golden Boot winner. That should do it!! COYS!!

    • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 5:24 pm

      ‘Ave it!

    • ronwol196061 09/08/2018 at 5:28 pm

And I actually thought there was a point in it.

      • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:30 pm

Apparently it was impossible to find a player worth buying and playing. I’m not convinced. I think it was financial strictures.

        • Fat Bertha 09/08/2018 at 5:31 pm

At least with that way of thinking it could *only* be Levy’s fault.

          • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:38 pm

When you’re the absolute boss, and there is no question it is Daniel Levy

            • ronwol196061 09/08/2018 at 5:48 pm

Ok. You are sold on that.
I have a different idea in that.

              • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:50 pm

                Fair enough.

          • ronwol196061 09/08/2018 at 5:39 pm

There isn’t a great meaning to buy a player for the sake of it.
We didn’t need Grealish if we have Dele/Eriksen/Moura/Lamela/Son etc
But we are short in the CM role. Only Dembele and Maybe Winks will come through…maybe Onomah… Not enough for a top team.
We could have also dumped a few players.
Its hard to understand how they buy. And it’s both Poch and Levy and yes they have done ok.. Its lacking to me that makes sense apart from the financial one

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:29 pm

Where are we now with our squad then? Are we going with 24 senior players plus the U21s?

    • foeorfreund 09/08/2018 at 5:32 pm

I think if Danny stays, then we only have a 23 man squad, plus the U21’s.

  • Sexy Beast 09/08/2018 at 5:30 pm

We were imperious in our last season at the Lane, why not this season? All we need is a good start, win sat then next week at Wemberlane, don’t lose at Manure who will implode this season as some of their players hate Jose, beat watford and then its the big one at the new Mothership, win that and lets face it we stuffed em last season at home and away we bossed em after gifting them the opener, its all systems go!!

    • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:34 pm

I don’t think Saturday will be anything other than a struggle for the obvious reasons. The result there won’t be indicative of the true squad quality and I look to the Fulham game to see how Pochettino lines up the full first team.

  • SpurAndy 🍒 🥧 09/08/2018 at 5:39 pm

Only slightly disappointed that we didn’t sign anyone. Who doesn’t like unwrapping a pressy. Would have been very disappointed if we were struggling in the bottom half of the division last year or were a new recruit to the PL.

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:41 pm

Right, I’ve had my mini rant and it’s over.

    Get behind the mighty lilywhites.

    • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:44 pm

Subliminal message as always Unk. 👍

  • SeattleSpursGuy 09/08/2018 at 5:53 pm

While I hope Toby sticks around and buckles down, my impression is Poch has washed his hands of him. If Poch won’t play him unless there’s an emergency, we might as well sell him abroad.

    • Matt 09/08/2018 at 5:58 pm

I agree. Toby tried to force a move but assuming Poch was right; no bid from MU. As we’ve not bought anyone I’d try to keep the defence together if Tobes decides he’s actually a professional…

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 5:53 pm

Ha ha ha! Harry Kane is getting it for his childbirth tweet, to the effect that will HE be relying on hypnosis for pain control if he ever needs a medical intervention?

  • Matt 09/08/2018 at 5:54 pm

Why would we want to loan Rose? I’m a Davies man myself but I don’t get the point of a loan for Danny.

  • Sexy Beast 09/08/2018 at 5:55 pm

Wow, blood is being spilt over there! hahahahaha

  • Sexy Beast 09/08/2018 at 5:56 pm

I have to say Pooch seemed fine in his presser, if he is pissed off with Levy he defo ain’t showing it.

  • Matt 09/08/2018 at 6:00 pm

I agree. Toby tried to force a move but assuming Poch was right; no bid from MU. As we’ve not bought anyone I’d try to keep the defence together if Tobes decides he’s actually a professional…

Toby will be an integral part of our success this season.

      • Matt 09/08/2018 at 6:04 pm

If we can keep our defence and Dier + Wanyama we will still concede less goals than almost anyone this season. So yep, I agree, we hang on to them all. Including Danny; just don’t get the loan thing.

    • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 6:03 pm

I’ve been critical of Alderweireld’s quality over the past few months (inasmuch as I don’t think he’s the player he was two years ago) but I wouldn’t for a second question his professionalism. I have no doubt he’ll perform any task given to him to the very best of his ability.

  • Sexy Beast 09/08/2018 at 6:04 pm

After a good start in the league the press will be saying its because we kept all of our best players whilst all the rest need time to bed in. The title will be between us and Citeh (they are obviously favorites) with Liverpool in turd, mark my words.

    • Matt 09/08/2018 at 6:06 pm

If we get a good start we’re nailed on top 4. I’ve always been more worried by WC effect than an eye catching window. Still am.

    • TCY 09/08/2018 at 6:50 pm

      Yes indeedy. My sentiments exactly

  • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 6:09 pm

Look on the bright side: Utd have to go through half a season with a central defensive partnership of Smalling and Jones.

    • 61 Spurs Nut 🌰 09/08/2018 at 6:16 pm

      Barring any loanees.

      • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 6:40 pm

They can’t bring anyone else in now until January. I thought they could but they have to declare their PL squad in the next 24 hours and that’s that.

        • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 6:43 pm

What about Bailly? Is he totally dismissed by José?

        • 61 Spurs Nut 🌰 09/08/2018 at 6:44 pm

          A mere technicality.

    • Freund or Foe 09/08/2018 at 6:51 pm

Always the bright side for me. It seems equally easy for some to look at the negatives aspects as it is for some the positives. Each to their own and only time will tell.

      • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 6:52 pm

Ditto. We now have an ideal opportunity to see which of the academy graduates are up to the task.

  • TCY 09/08/2018 at 6:51 pm

So what about Janssen and Onomah? Are they with us or out on loan? Not that I give a rat’s ass.

    • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 6:54 pm

Onomah’s currently injured but I’d be surprised if he goes on loan now. Janssen is definitely surplus to requirements. I don’t expect him to be named in out PL squad and we’ll either be looking to sell him or loan him before the end of the month.

      • TCY 09/08/2018 at 6:56 pm

But that would only be to a foreign team, correct?

        • UnkleTaff 09/08/2018 at 7:12 pm

          Or a Championship team.

        • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 7:33 pm

          Or a Scottish team.

  • TCY 09/08/2018 at 6:55 pm

The only fly in the potential ointment is a season ending injury to HK. Surely it would have been good to bring in a worthy sub for him sometime in the last three years. Having said that, we seemed to do pretty well when he was down last year. Sonny and Dele and Eriksen picked up the slack.

  • SeattleSpursGuy 09/08/2018 at 6:56 pm

Well, one thing this window means is a near certainty that the likes of Onamah, Luke Amos and Oliver Skipp with get decent minutes, at least in the Cups.

Watch them all get loaned out now.

    • TCY 09/08/2018 at 6:57 pm

I’m hoping Boy Georgieu gets named to the squad.

      • SeattleSpursGuy 09/08/2018 at 7:00 pm

Skipp and Amos impressed me in the two friendlies I attended, but young Anthony looked a bit lost if I’m honest.

        • TCY 09/08/2018 at 7:03 pm

Duly noted. On the telly his speed and guile showed to great advantage. I did not observe him when he was off the ball. Did not like his missing the PK against Barca. But Harry did the same once in the Cup.

      • 61 Spurs Nut 🌰 09/08/2018 at 7:03 pm

I believe that as he is under 21 as at 1 Jan 1997 he doesn’t need to be named.

      • Superspoz 🏆 09/08/2018 at 7:06 pm

Modern windows are unslamable, friction stays won’t allow it. But…an old fashioned sash window dropping on your bell ringers, ouch.
Sorry I’m just chatting shit, we didn’t sign anyone you see, I thought there might be at least one superstar, because we’re moving into a shiny new stadium and all that.

  • HD 🇺🇸 09/08/2018 at 6:58 pm

I am over the transfer window already. Our club decided to stand pat and improve from within. Their call. They will either succeed or get shredded. Either way it is the club I choose to support and that will not change. I will put my big boy pants on Saturday morning and cheer my guts for Spurs. All the other stuff can fall by the wayside.

    • TCY 09/08/2018 at 7:00 pm

What a trip it would be if Spurs ace out City and Pool–our only serious competition sez I. It is certainly a chance for the whole squad to step up to the plate (wrong metaphor–but you get my meaning). . . .

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 7:05 pm

A lot of rationalisation going on here. Don’t get too carried away, moderation in all things. It isn’t the window I hoped for but so long as the team doesn’t lose good players we’re good enough to finish top four. But I’m not jumping for joy. We couldn’t acquire quality additions but that is how it is.

    • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 7:26 pm

We have to make the best of what we have; but that is not the same as saying what we have is the best it could be.

  • Superspoz 🏆 09/08/2018 at 7:15 pm

Ah man, we’re a proper underdog now for the top 4 (according to the professionals) it’ll be even sweeter if we do the unthinkable and actually do something special (we probably won’t but what if eh… C’man who’s with me?)

Who did we buy last summer? Aurier who was crap and hopefully will be loads better this season. Llorente who was crap and hopefully will be not so crap this season.
    Can’t think of anyone else.
Most of us think Moura will be lots better, Lamela might just be the player he was before his double hip replacement.
Winks showed so much promise before his injury problems and didn’t feature after, could he really kick on this season?
Perhaps Pooch and Martial have been in touch and he really wants to come, perhaps Pooch is prepared to wait as his contract runs down and Manure are forced to sell.
Perhaps Pooch see’s a real talent in Grealish and is also playing the waiting game for him as his contract runs down.
    I’ll get my coat!

  • SeattleSpursGuy 09/08/2018 at 8:00 pm

On Twitter, Lyall Thomas is floating the idea that when Poch said the club needs to “be brave” and “take risks”, that could mean not rushing out to spend on new players, and instead make space for more youngsters to come through.

Maybe, but Poch has also said ‘identify targets early,’ bring them in early,’ etc.

    • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 8:09 pm

  • Chauvelin 09/08/2018 at 8:38 pm

    Poor old Hercules.

‘I will reflect with no emotion, as at the moment I am farking ballistic.

Why there is a little semblance of understanding. I fear how far we are taking the piss out of Poch. If we made T4 (which I doubt) that will be another reason for DL to procrastinate further. Any little sign of unrest from within the squad etc, will see him regrettably race to do deals quick in January to appease all.

It does not make good reading, and I personally believe DL should stick to the commercial aspect of running the club, and let someone else handle the transfers, without his interference.

And I again for one minute do not buy all the PR spin doctoring ‘all is well’.

    Evening all.
I’ll get over it but I’m still gutted about Grealish – for us and for him.
I got suckered in and really felt it would happen. I had a strong feeling that under ‘the way of the Poch’ he would develop into a top player, and that when Dele or Eriksen left he would be there to fill the void.

I feel bad for him too, because I think he would have made the England squad, and won’t now for at least a year. And I’d not be surprised if he disappears at a big club like Barkley soon enough, as unfulfilled potential. He looks like he has a bit of swagger and confidence. That can easily go awry in the wrong hands.

I don’t think we’ll go back in for him in January or next summer. When was the last time we did that? The ship has left the harbour, I fear. Big shame.
Anyway, that’s out of the system now. I’ll move on.

    • Superspoz 🏆 09/08/2018 at 9:15 pm

I am not gutted for Grealish at all. He’s a brummie boy and great grandad played for villa. He’s one of their own and he himself being gutted was totally made up. He’s a good player and now that he has stayed, villa have the best player in the championship at their disposal. Good luck to him and good luck to villa.

    Morning campers!
So, what I thought might happen, happened. I could see it coming.
Same as many, I feel a slight sense of disappointment. Mostly for the punters paying top dollar for seats in the shiney new home of the mighty Spurs. Feels like Levy has made promises he hasn’t kept.
But as I have mumbled on about previously; we have a decent squad and it’s hard to see where you would slot the mooted transfer targets into the team.
We still need to add quality in a couple of areas tompush on and compete with Citeh.
But in Poch I trust. Let’s get into it!

  • Flat Oeuf 09/08/2018 at 9:43 pm

Evening Gents, I’ve dipped in and out today…of the sea. I highly recommend it on future TDDs.

If the offer at the beginning of the window had been to keep the squad intact, I would have taken it…based on believing that we have a good player in Lucas Moura, some battle-hardened returnees form the WC and others back from long-term lay-offs (I know we have some more injuries currently).

I said several times I wanted a game changer in CM. Now, the only person I would want to see leave in the next 3 weeks would be Janssen as I don’t think he’ll get a minute for us this season.

It would be genuinely interesting to know who was at the top of the wanted list (Homegrown quota taken into consideration).

What is important is that Poch finds a way to use Toby and Danny to help this team. If you’re not going to get on and do business, then you can’t afford to be letting principles stand in the way of what we need to do to bring success. If that means bringin these players back into the fold properly, he needs to do that.

I’ve been a Poch advocate from the moment he was mentioned as a possible manager for us, but nobody is perfect. He needs to be smart enough to use all the assets at his disposal, and move his ego out of the way, if that is what is required.

    • stevo1987 09/08/2018 at 9:49 pm

I’m still happy with what we have got. If the few dissenters (allegedly) get with the programme we have nothing to fear. We still have younger players improving. We still have older players improving – Vert I think is going from strength to strength and Trips is the best right back \ wing back in the world (Jeremy Clarkson voice).

How long do you think it will take our new signings to fit in? Is just one of the questions we don’t have to worry about for another 5 months at least.

    • Sniper 10/08/2018 at 12:08 am

Was worried about Moura and Sanchez five months ago.
      But now they’re bedded in.

  • syd 09/08/2018 at 10:39 pm

Good morning folks. Reading through the posts I see we are trying to put a positive spin on this debacle but hey, we have to move on I suppose. This season has the makings of a potential disaster. We have already seen we cannot win the league with our first team so it appears we have given up on the title. I don’t see how anyone can argue with that point.
I also note some saying Toby tried to push through or at least wanted a transfer to Yanited. Not to say there isn’t but I have not seen one solitary quote from him to indicate that.
If Poch doesn’t play him then I will start to think there is a problem with Poch. Toby – world class, worth at least 50 mill and not play him would be ludicrous.
Our defence should be Jan, Sanchez and Tobes.

    • Sniper 10/08/2018 at 12:06 am

…. if we are going three at the back mate.
If not, we perm two from three with two attacking full-backs expected every time.
I think Poch will be sticking with his 4-2-3-1 this season. Which would mean one less midfielder if we play the three stooges together.

#thfc Pochettino: “What the club is doing, is showing, it is so brave. Building a new training ground & the lodge was a massive investment. [So is] building a stadium that is nearly £1bn. With Brexit…the cost is 30% more. Then keeping the best players, [that] is to be brave.”

#thfc Pochettino: “It was a strange transfer market because until England was out [of the World Cup] no-one was moving. Then also with Europe having more time to do deals, it was all so quiet and relaxed. It was difficult for everybody and for us too.”

#thfc Poch warns he’ll expect total commitment from the players who are at the club after European windows close: “It is human nature that you look after yourself. Now’s the moment to change your reality. Then you need to change your mind & think about the team & the collective.”

    • Hartley 10/08/2018 at 12:17 am

We could’ve signed a Sissoko or a Nelson or a Crouch or an Andy Reid or we could’ve sold a Berbatov or a Keane or a Modric or a Carrick.

We didn’t sell Alderweireld to Yanited, that’s a result.

    • Chauvelin 10/08/2018 at 12:17 am

I think there’s been a little bit too much acquiescence over here. It’s a very English reaction to say ‘stiff upper lip old chap’. Let the feelings out a bit? It could have been better, it could have been worse. I’m of the opinion that a midfielder reinforcememt was a good idea, and Cook looked like a decent option.

However, the stuff on the other place is very Old Testament isn’t it? Sackcloth and ashes, rending of clothes, pulling of beards, and lamentations.

      • Sniper 10/08/2018 at 12:28 am

I’m not going to get all bent out of shape, throw fifty fecks into Levy, ENIC or Poch because I feel entitled to be blessed with £150 million worth of new signings every window. I have no doubt we tried to sign players. None of us know the facts around it.
Whatever happens, I trust a World class coach. Dislike our Chairman and admire him in equal amounts and will support Spurs! Even if relegated, again!
I wonder how many of those dripping and moaning were actually around when that last happened?

Just had a pop across the road. Sure enough, that old favourite “we’ll do well to finish sixth” has made it’s annual appearance.

    Will those idiots never learn?

    • Syd 10/08/2018 at 6:10 am

Idiots they are, but every now and then they can be right once and on this occasion I happen to agree with them.
The difference I think between myself and them is that they are NEVER happy and live in that space which allows them to vent their daily frustrations into one direction.
There is no doubt in my mind this window was a disgrace of epic proportions and no amount of silver lining talk will negate that. Just my opinion.
Levy needs to take himself away from the negotiations but because it’s 29% his money he will not.
Let Poch pick scouts and get them all over the world finding the next Bale etc.

  • Ronwol1960-61🕎⚽🎷🎥 10/08/2018 at 12:44 am

The proof of the pudding will be that we create a coherent attack even when its a packed defence.

Dembele,Winks and any of the other quasi CM’s will have to create more when the going gets tough.

I think our results have been ok…our footie not as good (In my opinion) its because of the toughness of our defence and the turning over the ball and getting it upfield with some dynamite play. When things are tight and we are playing some of the bus parkers its those extra points lost they hurt and frustrate.
Lets see if we can sort that out and the window will be meaningless. Its easier said than done though

    • Sniper 10/08/2018 at 12:53 am

It will all come down to results between top 6 sides. Many similar pressing sides with small variances.
As you say; any team able to break down packed defensive lower half teams will have an advantage too.

      • Syd 10/08/2018 at 6:12 am

I think the top 6 will threatened this season. Games are going to be harder to win, injuries will be more prolific due to the upgrade in the standard across the board. It will faster and stronger. Better players and managers. It will be a very strong league.

    • Hartley 10/08/2018 at 12:53 am

    • Fatty B 10/08/2018 at 8:21 am

It’s stuff like that that did for me there. I suppose it could be a feeling genuinely expressed but jeez, who wants to hang out with people like that?

      • Chauvelin 10/08/2018 at 8:38 am

I don’t remember much happiness for that season. Losing 8-2 to Derby and finishing with the worst goal difference (-24) since the previous relegation in 1935.

        • Bardamu 10/08/2018 at 8:49 am

I think it’s okay to question things occasionally but being happier and more hopeful with relegation…? That’s either a wind-up or the workings of an unsound mind.

          • Chauvelin 10/08/2018 at 8:59 am

I think it was a knee jerk cry of exasperation.

Yes, it took me aback. As someone who was there watching, and was a period of great depression. No one was sure if Burkinshaw could rebuild Spurs quickly and get us back up.

To compare that summer with now is ludicrous.

    • Syd 10/08/2018 at 8:29 am

Believe me Fat, I want to be positive, I will always support our team, just struggling to get over what Levy has done this window. I don’t think people realise the damage it will cause in the long term. Unless something magical happens in January Poch will be gone, I feel it in my loins. I keep hearing his “I am not the person” quote. He can put on a brave face but it showed.
      By the way I sold that hat……thought I told you…. 🙂

      • Fatty B 10/08/2018 at 8:38 am

We’re all a bit disappointed I expect; to different degrees and for different reasons, no doubt, but hold tight my friend. We have an oustanding squad, all the top players of which we retained, playing in the best stadium in the world.
Top 4 and a pot. You can put your favourite thongs on it.

        • Syd 10/08/2018 at 8:46 am

That is one of the problems mate. Our expectations are now just making top 4 when within the last couple of seasons we were thinking of titles. We have gone backwards in our expectations and that should have been the last thing to happen going into our new home.
But I will hold tight buddy.

          • Bardamu 10/08/2018 at 9:00 am

To be fair, thinking of titles was only born of that 1 season when the money clubs all went into meltdown and we were the sole club chasing the Foxes. No one could have predicted that after Poch’s 1st season which was respectable but saw us finish 5th. It raised expectations a lot but we’ve finished 2nd and 3rd since then.
We could have spent £100million this summer and still not caught City. Liverpool have spent £158million and probably won’t catch them.

            • Syd 10/08/2018 at 9:10 am

Salah is a game changer – 40 mill. Kovacic on loan – we could have sold them Hugo given we have great keepers. Meyer on a free FFS.
Glad we kept Toby and Mousa has not gone (but prob will be before Aug 31)

              • Chauvelin 10/08/2018 at 9:20 am

Mayer is an oddity. He might be a great signing, but then again he could be another Davy Klaassen, a damp squid. Only one on big, big wages.

                • Chauvelin 10/08/2018 at 9:20 am

                  • Bardamu 10/08/2018 at 9:22 am

I do remember a few saying “Why were we not in for Davy Klaassen?” last summer. He’s gone down as one on the worst-ever PL signings.

              • Bardamu 10/08/2018 at 9:21 am

Salah was a superb buy (although I can’t stand the bloke), and I said that at the time. He was already shining at Roma.
But, whilst I’m not always his biggest fan, you’d have shipped out World Cup winning captain Lloris for a CM on loan (who looked pretty average at the World Cup)?

I’m not sure that would have been a great PR move either, all in all…

  • Syd 10/08/2018 at 8:35 am

I said sometime ago I would like Rose to leave but at the time I wrote that I thought we would get reinforcements. Now we cannot possibly let Rose go. The only ones who could are Llorente Janssen, Onomah, CCV.
The rest we need, even Sissy.

    • Chauvelin 10/08/2018 at 8:40 am

We certainly need Sissoko on Saturday! Any port in a storm, and all that.

  • Syd 10/08/2018 at 9:18 am

    I love this quote:

“Hard to believe that I have spent more on my Season Ticket this summer than Daniel Levy has on new signings!” lol – brilliant

  • SpurAndy 🍒 🥧 10/08/2018 at 9:18 am

Can understand peeps with a sense of frustration and angst about the window. They absolutely have the right to feel that way if it’s what they truly think, not that it needs me to remind anyone.
Nobody should be embarrassed to tell it as they see it if they genuinely feel it at the time. It’s when the balance and perspective goes and everything is picked upon to find the negative aspect in every situation that I can’t abide. Or when somebody only ever posts criticism and never anything positive I begin to suspect that they’re a gooner and just trolling. There’s nobody on here that does that but there’s plenty elsewhere that do.

    • Syd 10/08/2018 at 9:22 am

Anyway I had my rant and I am over it. Kick ass tomorrow!!!
Goodness I hope we do well this season otherwise the silver lining mood in here might change a fraction….

      • SpurAndy 🍒 🥧 10/08/2018 at 9:29 am

Good man Syd, bottom line is always the results and what we end up with at the end of the season. Bring it on, COYS!

      • Bardamu 10/08/2018 at 9:30 am

If we keep Toby and re-integrate him properly, with Moura looking raring to go, and having kept everyone else together, we look strong (again). United will be as unconvincing as ever; the Goons haven’t strengthened from what I can see; Chelsea’s new keeper isn’t going to be better than Courtois and they may yet lose Hazard if Real fancy it before the end of August…?
        We’re in pretty good shape.

        • SpurAndy 🍒 🥧 10/08/2018 at 9:48 am

Agree Bard, would have loved to have got one or two big hitters in which would have been the icing on the cake for me. But it’s a pretty damn fine cake imo.

  • foeorfreund 10/08/2018 at 9:57 am

    THST getting involved….

Fair play, all questions are valid. Though for THFC to answer them “fully and credibly”, they would need to go into detail about what they tried to do, and why it didn’t come off, which isn’t going to happen.

    • Bardamu 10/08/2018 at 10:05 am

Seems like strong words for them. But, to add to your point, it’s also ‘safely’ too late to result in anything more coming back across the table than what Poch has already said, I’d argue.

    • Chauvelin 10/08/2018 at 10:08 am

      The worm turns?

There is a dialogue to be had over the eye watering ticket prices compared to say Liverpool, who have found a shed load of money this summer from somewhere to buy big.
